So i was 6 days late for my last period and full freaked out that i was pregnant..i've sworn to myself that im going to go on a form of birth control apart from condoms but i've been reading this forum and im so scared now to try anything!!! I was going to try the implant - Implanon - but theres little threads on it on here and basically everything is negative....after been almost a week late i dont think i'll want to have sex again and i think thats going to be hard to explain to my boyfriend...
Any advice or experience on the implant would be much appreciated...like how long you bled for wen it first was put in and any side effects etc...eeep..

At least your using some form of birth control, a condom..

Anything can make your periods late.

You need to speak to your Doctor regarding what is best for you, we are all different and can handle, or not handle certain things foreign to our bodies.

But, i hope you get some answers regarding your question as well.

Try not to stress, because that delays things further, okay?

Keep in mind alot of people go searching online because they are having problems. The people who don't have problems have no reason to go to a forum and ask about their iud or other birth control. What you find online is going to be a collection of everyone who's had issues. That doesn't mean majority do. Everything has side effects and risks. Absolutely everything. That doesn't mean they will always happen. It's just what could happen and does happen to a minority of people. All the implants and IUDs do have a long adjustment period you should be prepared for. They will cause some random bleeding and possibly cramps and the IUDs inserted in the uterus are rather painful going in. For most people it's no where near pass out painful like you'll hear on the forums. Different people are more sensitive there than others. Birth control pills can cause spotting as well but it will probably go away faster than an IUD.

I was on yasmin for about 8years with no problems. It did lower my sex drive slightly but not enough I really noticed until I came off it for awhile. It really helped my skin and hair. I almost went back on birth control pills just because of how much less acne I had, how smoother all my skin was even down my back, and it was less oily with my hair not getting as greasy. I loved birth control pills but they were a pain to take every day. Now I have a mirena IUD. The mirena was not without it's problems but after 3weeks my body seems to finally be accepting a little plastic thing inside it. If not I'm giving it 2 more weeks and then having it removed and trying seasonique pills.

Well your examples are a case in point for you initial statement.LOL. I've had an IUD, there was NO pain on insertion or removal. Nor was there any spotting or any adjustment period. What you are experiencing may be because you've got one that is chemical laden. The point that many on here are here to discuss problems is true but we each have a different range of experiences to share and solutions to offer.

I would say the people who have absolutely no pain, bleeding, or adjustment are actually very uncommon. Most find iud insertion painful and I fail to see how that clamp stuck on my cervix could not be painful to someone. I have talked to people who had it inserted various ways. Some places use ultrasound, some don't, some dilate the cervix, some don't, and a few will give pain killers. That can cause some variation but most places seem to just force everything open and slide it in with no pain killers. Which pretty much has to hurt. The degree just varies from some pinching to the people who say they threw up or passed out from the pain. Nearly everyone has some bleeding too and the hormonal versions including implanon are more likely to cause symptoms longer. It's not always bad for everyone though. If my body didn't decide it hated having something in it I probably would not have had problems past the first 3days. I had spotting the day it was put in and cramps for a few days and then felt fine. Then my period started and my body decided to go insane trying to get rid of the IUD for the next 2 weeks. I don't even think it's actually the hormones causing the problem. Just my uterus saying there's something there and trying to push it.

Much the same with birth control pills. Majority do have some adjustment but majority also don't have bad adjustment and probably hardly even remember it was a problem a few months later. Some do end up throwing pills back up for awhile (like me) and some find their hormones go nuts and they have major problems with things like acne. I don't think that's the majority, it's just the majority you find complaining about pills on a forum. Pretty much everyone in my highschool was on birth control pills and it was common for girls to take each other to planned parenthood if they found out a friend was not on bcp. I don't remember anyone complaining and most loved the pills. They did a great job on my acne once I stopped feeling sick. In comparison it seems like majority of the bcp posts I see on forums have complaints. Online is a good place to find all the potential problems and risks but not so much a good place to get a feel for the average reaction.
