    Experience with Yaz?

    Hi Guys!

I am 16 and have just started taking Yaz today which was prescribed by my gynecologist to regulate my periods and make them lighter. I am not sexually active and have mild to moderate acne.

I was just curious to hear some girls' experience with Yaz and what they think of it. I am prescribed to be on this at least a year.

    Thank You.

    Hello summer
There are heaps of threads on this subject. Do a search and you will find so many results.
However i'll still tell you my experience but first remember that the pill affects everyone differently. Particularly Yaz has caused a number of problems for a few people (if oyu do a search, you'll understand what i mean) but dont let that scare you or put you off.

Yaz worked well for me in the beginning but the side effects i experienced were:
Low sex drive and i wasnt able to get wet what so ever

That was a problem for me so i switched. Other than that a few hot flushed here and there but nothing serious.

Also a plus with yaz is it'll clear up your acne

My experience with Yaz was awful. I know symptoms with birth control are different with everyone. However, after about two years of being on Yaz I started to become sick every single day. I couldn't hold any food down. I was constantly sick and had nausea. It turned out that the Yaz made me so sick I had to be hospitalized. If you start to feel any symptoms like this, I would tell you to get off of Yaz right away.

        Thanks for your feedback.
I started yesterday and took 2, like my gynecologist told me, so I wouldn't have a period on any weekends and last night I was up twice throwing up. Not really throwing up, but heaving, with little coming out. I haven't felt that good all day today, but I haven't taken my pill today yet. I take it at 10 every night. I'll see if this is what's causing me becoming sick. It may also be taking an iron pill without food (I have to take iron because I am enemic, too) or just because I ate too much and too much junk food so late into the evening.

This is actually a common side effect the first several months, but I'll see how this works out. At least I'm on Christmas Break, so I'm not experiencing this during school days.

        Thanks for your imput!

Try taking the pills in the morning with food. Lots of people can't take birth control at night because they'll be sick the next morning and I made the same mistake when I started. It went on for days until my mom told me to take it in the morning and then I was instantly fine. After a few months it no longer mattered when I took it even when I stopped birth control for a little over a year I can still take whenever and not have problems now.

Why did you take 2 the first day? Were you due to have your period soon? Taking an extra pill won't do anything unless you were going to have your period within a few days and wanted to stop it. Even then it's no gurantee. You'll probably have breakthrough bleeding. Taking 2 is nearly guranteed to make you throw up yaz or yasmin if you haven't taken pills before.

Low sex drive is probably one of the most common side effects of any birth control pill no matter the brand or ingredients. Not producing enough moisture seems to be a very common one of yaz and yasmin but is possible with all of them. Neither will go away as you take the pill. In fact if anything it slowly gets worse. I never found it a big deal. My sex drive is extremely high in the first place so if it does get lowered a tiny bit I don't notice. I still ask for sex more often than my husband can perform it. Dryness is easily solved by a drop of lube or more foreplay. If that's all I have to deal with to have a 99% chance of not getting pregnant plus no acne or dandruff, lighter periods, and control over periods then I'll take it.

I was on Yaz for 4 months and have just decided to give it the boot. It seemed, for me, that it caused everything it was supposed to ease - cramping, moodiness/depression, low sex drive, vaginal dryness, cyclical migraines.

I never had any hormonal or PMS issues before Yaz. Now, I apparently have vaginal thinning due to low estrogen. I'm not menopausal (as far as I know) and only 25. Was it influenced at all by Yaz? Not sure, but it did become most bothersome while taking it.

It seems from my own personal research that Yaz has a lot of negative reviews. People are either extremely happy with it or are vehemently against it.

It's often advised that you give any new pill a trial period of 3 months before you decide whether or not to stick with it. I would say if you notice anything grossly out of the ordinary or bothersome during the first month, check back in with your doctor.

I did not have good experiences with Yaz. It was also my first birth control I went on when I was 17. It made me nauseous beyond the time period it would usually take the body to adjust. It also seemed to make my moodiness worse & I had uncontrollable anger around the time of my period. Going off of it was a trip also.

However, every body is different and yours may take to it just fine. If not, don't be afraid to try again until you find something that works.

Yaz is specifically for women that suffer from PMDD. Although PMDD is difficult to diagnose it is pretty severe. Make sure that you are on the RIGHT pill. Yaz can have a negative effect on women that DON'T have PMDD. I personally take Yaz, and it has worked better than any other birth control I've ever taken. I've taken birth control for 9 years now and of all the birth controls I have taken Yaz has definitely helped me the most. I stress this because there's a fine line between PMS and PMDD. Please talk to your doctor about your symptoms first before sticking to Yaz.

Yaz is specifically designed for women that suffer from PMDD which is worse than PMS... If you haven't experienced ANY hormonal issues before Yaz probably wasn't the right pill for you.
