    new to birth control

i'm supposed to be starting today. i'm a little nervous about what to expect; i've never been on medication at all and this is a huge life change for me.

I'm also a little nervous because I'm 30 years old and have been "saving myself". The wedding is in April, I hope this is plenty of time to get used to being on the pill.

Also, is it pretty much expected that I'll be "regular" from here out? Because if so, my period will come only 2 days before the wedding and I DO NOT want to be on my period on my honeymoon!

I heard that you can skip to a new pack at the start of the "sugar pills" to avoid having your period but I feel leery of doing that. Is it really safe? My doctor waved it off but I really want to be sure and not mess up on my pills. I don't want to get pregnant so soon.

It may take a few months for your body to adjust to the pill before things 'level' out, but yeah, you should be pretty regular.

Yes, you can 'skip' your period during your wedding. Just immediately start the new pack and don't take any of the sugar pills. There have people that have spotted slightly when doing this, so just be prepared for that.

Congratulations on the wedding! And welcome to the forum!

so i did some googling and now i am more confused. this particular one, ortho-tri-cyclen-Lo is a triphasic pill meaning that the hormones fluctuate each week so essentially youre not supposed to skip the sugar pills because it'll mess you up. does anyone here skip their periods on this med?

Oh - there's a post somewhere here where Kira explains all this, I think. I'll see if I can find it.

Hmm - may not have been Kira, I can't find it, but here's one from Little, our boss lady.

Also, just do a search on the site, you'll get a lot of good input.

i talked to my ob/gyn today. he says to shorten my cycle by skipping the last 3 active pills of this cycle and next. has anyone else done it this way?
