Some advice on the Nuva Ring..........

Looking for advice from any women out there that has experience with the Ring or just advice in general. Many thanks!!

I started the ring about 4 days ago - I know I should have read up on side effects before starting (dr. Didn't tell me any ). But, after reading all of the side effects that women are having from it (depression, loss in sex drive, hair loss) i'm wondering if I should just take it out.

I haven't done well on bcs in the past - shots or pills. I get too emotional or dizzy spells. I wanted to give this one a go to see how it'd do. Main reason is to have regular periods. Also, going to see my boyfriend next month and wanted to make sure that I didn't have my period while I was there. Any suggestions? Should I stay on it and see how I do?

mm my goodness!!! sounds like me right there! i need some BC to make me get a regular period...it sucks!! although i haven't start the ring yet so i dont' really know. but i'll have to say the patch makes me a little emotional, but it's giving my body wayyyy more hormones than the ring will, so...i guess i'll have to see as well.

my doctor said that the ring has like less side effects, as well as lighter periods (yay!!!!). she also said that no one really complained about having the ring in there during sex, etc. and as compared to other methods of BC the ring releases a constant amount of hormones into your body. until where if you're taking a pill it's stronger when you first take it and then wears off at the end before you have to take another one. if i were you i'd stay on it, and that's probably what i will do when i start it.

      re; nuvaring

hi girls, its obnurse. my husband put me on nuvaring several months ago because i smoke( i know terrible for a nurse, please don't lecture me about it) and it does contain a much lighter degree of hormones than the pill. at first i had some break-through bleeding but that's it, and it only happened 1 month. i don't notice anything while using a dildo and he can sometimes feel it but it doesn't hurt him or "rub him the wrong way" so to speak lol!!!! i would give it a little more time, maybe see if anything else is going on that could cause your symptoms. most importantly listen to your body and do what you feel is right for you. even if you take it out, if you continue to feel these things, then you know it wasn't the ring and you can always start it again. good luck and i personally think its a great med. bye guys.

i wrote this to thers also, so some may not apply to you. good luck- just temember, the vagina is a blind sac so there is no danger of it going anywhere and also just like with a tampon, you have to get it as far in as possible, try to get near your cervix if possible you won't feel it at all.

            to dawn re;ring

hey dawn, the effectiveness of the ring is 99%, just like the pill. the thing that is better than the pill is that you won't forget it and it is a constant supply of hormones, whereas with the pill to get the same effect, you would have to take it at EXACTLY the same time everyday and never forget a dose. i have never been on the shot and i don't know what your personal reasons are for getting off but it is a great way for young girls especially to prevent pregnancy. the cost will be different though, the shot is (at our office) 75.00$ every three months whereas the ring is about 50.00$ every month from the pharmacy and you may need to pay for your dr.s office visit unless you can talk him/her into calling it in to the pharmacy. good luck i hope you like it -just remember to push it in as far as possible, try to get to your cervix, it's a little tricky the first time, it is a little larger than you might think- it would probably fit around a baseball if you can picture that, but very pliable. bye

I go to planned parenthood and they never told me that it is only recommended to take the shot for 2 years I have been on it for almost 5 now and I got that from the depo website so I dont feel like they are giving me the level of care that I need the reason that I go there is that I cannot afford anywhere else I on there program for it to be free (yay) so I am just curious about different forms of b-c and what my options are, the ring seems to be the best next to the shot so thats what I am leaning to and I know this sounds wierd but I miss my period a little thanks

to dawn ; you are unique

oh my goodness, after being an on/gyn nurse for going on 14 yrs. now, i have NEVER met someone that missed their period. some of the women when i did labor & delivery said that was one of the things they loved, not having "aunt flow" visiting every month. i think that's cool and very unique- anyone else out there that feels the same??? just reverting back to my psych. nursing rotation and wondering if deep inside, you identify your period as somewhat of a link to your womanhood consciencely or subconsciencely, i know -i've got to stop analyzing, i think its part of my obsessive/compulsive tendencies. bye girl p.s. write me back when you have p.m.s.& when you are cramping and bleeding like a stuck pig. oh & you are out of pads or tampons and there's no one home to go get them for you and you ruin your favorite undies and maybe even the only pair of jeans you've ever had that fit you perfectly(and they don't make either anymore!!! i hope you know i'm joking- i just have a weird, sarcastic sense of humor.

I know Im crazy, I will probably regret that and what you said soo made laugh out loud seriously but I do have other reasons for wanting off depo but then ugh Im just not sure and I have read alot on here about people having HORRIBLE side affects but my main prob is weight gain and I just want to be sure that in the future when I want children I will not have any problems with that and the way it affects your bones thats scary to me so as a nurse what would you reccomend for someone like me I am 20 years old been in my relationship for 6 years and I am in school for nursing in my second semester I will be entering the program in the fall so what would you recommend like I said I go to pp and they offer ZERO help really frustrating! Thanks

Obnurse - It's callidryas here again. It has been 11 days since I started the ring. I've been having headaches like crazy (this morning bordering on the edge of a migraine which I never get) - yes, I've been drinking enough water - I live in the desert and have to anyway. And I have been monitoring my emotional status throughout. I've noticed that I have not been as "up" as I usually am. It took me several hours to get out of bed this morning. Also, have wanted to work out as usual but no energy level. So, I took the ring out and am going to monitor myself over the weekend.
