Do i really need to wait for my period to get back on the pill?

    Hi,

I've been on the pill for about four years now, and recently ran out of the years supply I had before moving to California. I took my last active pill February 6th, and had my period February 10th - February 13th. I finally received a new supply of birth control pills February 22nd. Since I'm a Sunday starter I've been waiting for my first period OFF the pill, which was suppose to come three days ago, March 10th. I had all the symptoms I get before my period comes, but it hasn't yet come, not even spotting. I have read that it takes time for my body to get readjusted to the way it was before I got on the pill, so it's likely that I will miss a period.. but the thing is, is that I dont want my body to readjust because I want to get back on the pill. Theres no way I can be pregnant because I have not had intercourse since coming off the pill, so I was wondering if it was necessary to start the pill on my period, or if I can just start it now. I read that it can take even several months before I see my period, but I really dont want to wait that long to get back on the pill.

If anyone can answer my question, or have experienced this issue before, I would love to hear what you did, or what I'm suppose to do about this.

    Thank you.

Our bodies do see when foreign things enter, and when they leave and get confused.

Why not wait until your next due and see if it comes, and then start.. If not, I can't see any harm in starting it at the date you would have so that you mentally are still aware of when you are due.

I went off the pill and haven't had mine for two and a half months, so I'm not sure when my body will decide to commence again, hopefully never I am at that age

I mean, talk to your doctor if you're concerned, but I get what you're saying about not wanting your body to stop being regulated by the hormones in the Pill. All birth control pills can be started at any time. It just might mess with your cycle, so they recommend starting when your period starts. But you're were already on the Pill...so I can't see the harm in just starting the Pill again. You might get some breakthrough bleeding for a month or two regardless of when you restart. My only concern is that delaying starting back up might make you more likely to get pregnant if you don't use protection, but since you've been off them, you should be using condoms ANYWAY until you've been back on the Pill for a month. Like I said, if you're concerned, give your doc a call!
