    My experience

Hi guys, just wanted to share my two cents with what happened with me and Mirena.
I had the device implanted on Oct 24, 2011. My follow up appointment was scheduled for Thurs Nov 24 which was Thanksgiving so I didn't have it immediatly at 4 weeks. I had my appoint on Friday, which was December 16 after having to cancel the one the week before, I went in and the Dr couldn't find my strings. I was expecting this because I couldn't feel them the day of the procedure, so I didn't expect him to be able to find them. It was moderately uncomfortable and the doctor informed me I'd have to have an ultrasound to see if the IUD was still in or if it had fallen out. I went for my ultrasound today and I had both kinds which I wasn't thrilled about. I didn't hear anything back and so I called my Doctor's office when I was on my way home, and the nurse called me back a few hours later and said that my IUD was fine and in place and that we didn't have to worry about it until I was ready to have it removed. I had moderate bleeding all last month but other than that I haven't had any issues.
I'm going to leave it until I'm ready for it to be removed but I'm going to keep a close eye on my health and all the side effects listed here.
Also, my doctor was very thorough when he was telling me what to expect when I had my mirena, except for the amount of pain the clamp on the cervix caused, I would suggest asking for a painkiller before you go in to have it inserted because that was not fun!

thank you ladies for making/keeping up with this thread... it's insightful to know i'm not the only one that has had a similar experience with the iud. i had paragard inserted in april of this year & so far have had nothing but problems with it. i do not do very well with hormonal birth control and since my boyfriend and i are waiting to get pregant, i thought the iud was the perfect solution. boy was i wrong about that. all it's done for me is cause me headache after headache... besides the horrific pain i experienced with insertion, i developed a bacterial infection from it (which resulted in a 7 day course of antibiotics), following a yeast infection (another 3 day treatment). my boyfriend was having a difficult time becoming intimate with me because of the discomfort of the strings, so i got them cut shorter (which my ob said he would be willing to do if i found it neccisary). several days later i got my period & when i went to check for the strings (which i do after every cycle), they were gone! could it have fallen out when i used the bathroom and didn't notice? could it have become embedded in me somewhere? what if it's just floating around in there & not providing me sufficent protection? so i made yet another appointment with my doctor to get a professional opinion. he did a transvaginal ultrasound & there it was -- exactly where it should be. it has been a couple months now since the ultrasound and i still can't find the strings. obviously it's still in place because my boyfriend can still feel those stubborn little pokers, but it's bothersome that i can't feel for it when i find the need to. i plan on having it removed at my next appointment in january. aside from the fact it's been giving me incredible anxiety, i can't help but notice the discomfort i experience with it (especially after sex) & the heavy periods and increased discharge are not something i have been able to get used to. looks like it's back to the pill for me.

        Need serious help!!!

Hi my name is Racheal. Im gonna try my best to make this short as possible. I have had the Mirena for almost 2 years. My periods stopped completely and I didnt have any cramping or any kind of symptoms for the first year. Well, around late October of 2011 I started to experience massive cramps, lower back pains, bleeding from the rectum, im always tired now and just wanna stay home all the time. My fiance and I believe that I could also be pregnant but think that something else could be wrong also. When I cramp it feels as if im being stabbed and when I go to the bathroom it hurts when my stool comes out and a couple times I found blood in it. Even when I urinate I will wipe and I see nothing but blood on the toilet paper. I know this is getting too detailed but im really scared but I cant afford to go see a OB/GYN. I have been waiting for over 8 months now to just go get a pap done. Coming this April I will have missed 2. If anyone could tell me what they think is wrong it would be greatly appreciated. Please!!! Im only 19!!! I dont wanna be one of those young girls who cant have children.

I'm not a doctor I think it's best you see a doctor.... You shouldn't keep waiting around it sounds like things are getting bad.

i went to the drs today toget my iud removed so me and my husband can try to have more kids. i have never been able to feel the strings of my iuds. since i could not afford insurance i could not afford to go to the dr to do checkups . today at the dr office she did a full exam and when she went to remove the oud she could not feel the strings or even see them. thw strings were cut short. ans she thinks that they have coiled in the cervix she tried to get the string to come out a little no luck and not wanting to hurt me she told me i needed a us. now i have to wait for the us and drive over 30 minutes for this darn thing. she dosent think its moved and just wants to make sure. after reading everypost o this thread i knew that after me and the hubs have all the kids we want im gettin fixed. to much risk involved other wise. while i loved the iud and it worked great forme im done with thw stress.
