Hi, I can't believe there is a sight for this. It's great. Well today I went to the doctor to check on my iud (mirena) and lo and behold, no strings! I've had it for 2 years and my periods actually became longer (9 days) and very bad cramping ( The only reason I got mirena was to have no period, great thanks! ) Now I can't wait to go thru menopause and just take hormone pills . Doc gave me 2 options, get a D&C or go to a gyne that specializes in lost IUD strings. I didn't know that doctors could specialize in that kind of stuff, it's ridiculous If it's not one thing it's another !
Either way women are always in some kind of pain be it physically or just the kids saying Mom a hundred times .

my strings were lost and I worried about it and feared removing it for 2 years! They had me so scared! I went to a different doc and he wasn't a specialist or anything - actually an ob/gyn at an Army hospital and he said lets take a look and see if we can fish for them. Yes it was scary - but it didn't hurt and he found them and out it came! Mine were missing since the first check up after it was in - they knew they cut them too short the instant the did it - "oops" and they warned me so it wasn't a shock mine were gone. well my strings came out the day I found out i was at least 3 weeks pregnant..(may have been further along) but the iud was so firmly in place it took the doctor like 20 minutes to get it out.......IUD's cause nothing but pain and loss....i had mirena and I didnt have a period at all in the 2 1/2 yrs I had it but I did have alot of problems.....i created a new group groups.myspace.com/IUDnot4ME check it out if you need some support

Lost IUD Strings and IUD

I can't believe how much information is on this site about IUDs. I surely didn't know that this many women had so many problems or concern with them and other things related with them. I'm very glad I found this site. Anyway, I have had my iud for a little over 3 yrs. I am allergic to birthcontol and I don't want to even mention the Depo Shot. After having my 2nd son my Dr. and I disscued the iud. Sounded great. He didn't mention alot but just enough for me to think it would be great. For the first 7mths no cycle, that was great. I was always pretty regular until I had my kids so it didn't bother me when I did start again and my cycles weren't so regular. But my side effects or whatever you would call them have gotten more noticable. Feeling like your pregnant, the symtoms of your pd lasting for 3 wks and spotting and bleeding off and on in those three wks. It's driving me crazy. Oh, when I had it put in they never said anything about checking strings. So I have delt with all of this for some time. At my regular check ups they said all is well. But this last time I went (2 mths ago) the Dr. could find the strings or see anything. She is just a family Dr. I had a ultrasound done and the tec took pictures and told me where things were and said it looked like the string came disattached and my iud was a little high up. So my Dr. said not to worry, all should be fine. But I have heard of getting pregnant with an iud. They took a test after they couldn't find it and it was neg. I just hate all this confusion with this thing. Should I just have it removed? I hate the mood swings, eating like a horse every couple of days throughout the week, and then thinking there could be a possibility of a baby.

I'm sorry that you're having difficulty with your IUD and that you weren't given full details about it before you had it inserted. You mentioned having no period for the first 7 months and that you're allergic to birth control (I'm assuming the methods that contain hormones). Do you have a Mirena? I hope not because Mirena contains hormones, which could explain the mood swings and other symptoms that you're having. I have a Paraguard, which has no hormones, and other than some heavy periods, I have no problems with it. Every woman is different. If my strings were missing, I would have it removed and possibly replaced with a new one. Without the strings, how do you know if it's still in the right position? How could the doctor simply tell you not to worry? Is he going to have you come in every few months to make sure it's still in place? Maybe you should consider getting a second opinion. But IUD's are optional, so if it makes your life difficult, get it removed. You're making an important decision about the quality of your life. Don't allow your doctor to decide for you.

Can't find IUD(mirena) string

So....I had my IUD(mirena) put in on June 15th, 2007. After just having my 5th child in May I talked with friends who had the IUD and was so excited when i finally got mine. After about 3 weeks i noticed that here I am trying to loose weight after just having a baby and now i am gaining weight. I know it has to be the IUD!!! I am on weight watchers and watch every thing i eat, i was taking trimspa, and working out as much as i can for nothing. Ever since i had this ****** IUD put in its been nothing but problems. My family members started asking if i was pregnant again cause the weight i put on. So to prove to my family I wasn't pregnant I had my sister run up to CVS and buy me a home pregnancy test. Here I am trying to shut my family up and show them they are wrong and all i could do was cry. I took 3 test in the matter of 10min. and sure enough all 3 came up positive. What the hell!!! I freaked out and called my doctor right away. I go to his office the next day and they do a pregnancy test of me there and that one came up positive too. Now the doctor has me running to the hospital to get a ultrasound done and see how far along I am. They confirm I am around 2 weeks. My doctor says the IUD has to come out. Well low and behold he cant find the string. Now I am bugging out....WHAT U MEAN YOU CAN'T FIND THE STRING??? So he has me make an appointment to come in next week and have another ultrasound done. During the weekend I started bleeding alot and went to the hospital. There they confirmed that I had a miscarriage. Now my doctor says its best that I have the IUD removed but since he can't find the string I have to go to the hospital for outpatient procedure done there. Has anyone had this done??? Please contact me and let me know what happens. Now i am scared and regret ever getting this IUD put in. Plus now my doctor office is telling me my insurance won't cover me to get it done at the hospital for them to get this IUD out so if i don't come up with $1500.00 up front then I can't go in next week for the doctor to get the IUD out. So now what am i suppose to do. I don't have $1500.00 to get this out. Plus I didn't put it in. I trusted my doctor when he said it goes right in at my office and comes right back out in 5 years. He forgot to tell me this part. Now I am so upset and stressed not knowing how this IUD will get out. Anyone know what i could do?? iud removal when strings are too short

I went in this summer to have my copper IUD removed after having it for 8 years. I had gotten tired of the super heavy periods I had with it, so I was switching to the Mirena. When the copper IUD was inserted, my Nurse Practitioner cut the strings too short so I was never able to feel them the entire 8 years. I had had one previously that had been expelled, so I wasn't worried about knowing if it was in place. I already knew what it felt like to have it come out. Anyway, when I went in to have it taken out, I took 400 mg of ibuprofen because I had a headache that morning. That was a REALLY REALLY good thing because the NP and gynecologist spent over 20 minutes fishing around trying to get the IUD out. It was not fun, but not painful (love that ibuprofen!!). After trying for some time, they decided that it needed to be removed surgically. Getting it removed outpatient in the hospital was one of the easiest things I had ever done (medically anyway). The expense is another story, but as far as pain and discomfort...the removal at the hospital was VERY VERY easy. I went in, they put me to sleep, they took it out. I woke up and went home with no pain. A little groggy, but all in all it was way easier than that office visit where they went fishing for 20-30 minutes!! Good luck Jessica.
Now for the expense. The reason I found this site was because I have felt that if the IUD became embedded because the strings were cut too short then my provider should cover the cost of the removal. They keep reviewing the case and saying, "nope, sometimes that just happens and it is not our fault." The IUD company has been unable to tell me any scientific info on this. Is there anyone else who has had strings cut too short and had this trouble with their IUD? Also, is there anyone who didn't have their strings cut too short whose IUD became embedded? I noticed that one person already posted who said that their IUD strings were too short but that the IUD came out no problem. Is there anyone else who had that experience? I want to be fair to my clinic, but I'm not sure they are being completely honest with me!!

they can not locate my IUD

So I went to the hospital today for outpatient and was put to sleep. The doctor kept telling me not to worry that the IUD was coming out. Well, yes it was easy and I dont remember a thing about the surgery but when i woke up the nurse told me the doctor could not find the IUD. Now I am so scared. Just on wednesday he did a ultrasound to confirm it was in me and located it from the ultrasound. Today he tells me it must have fallen out. I know the IUD is still in me. I have cramps and pains. Plus i thing i would have seen an IUD if i came out me. I am not blind. Has this happen to anyone??? Now he wants me to go for a full body catscan so they can see where the IUD is. He is leaving me hanging and i am so confused, scared and ****ed. Everyone keeps telling me to sue and i have a lawsuit but do i??? If anyone went through this please contact me right away. thanks for your concern and giving me a little info. i have made an appointment to get this removed but since i live in a small town there isn' really a womens dr. in town for this kinda of stuff. the one i'm going to see is a nurse mid wife, and we're not sure if she knows how to remove it. i guess we will see. if i go to the next town with a good doc. it will take until Dec. to get in. i wanted it out A.S.A.P.
