    Birth Control Side Effect: Moodiness

I just began taking Ortho-triclen Lo. I am maybe into my third week, and my attitude has changed dramatically. I would like to know what everyone else's symptoms are who take birth control pills.

I have become irritable, and tired.
I am more serious/lost a sense of humor
    I have become more impatient.
Even physically I feel more exhausted.
I feel like i could care less about work and just want to quit.

I haven't even been taking them a month and already I feel like I can't handle the mood swings and irritability. I am about to start school in a couple of months and I won't be able to handle the extra work in my life if I am like this. Does it go away?

I was on the pill for about 7 years and it never went away. The best thing I ever did for myself was stop taking it. If you're having this kind of reaction to the pill maybe try a non-hormonal method.

I am having the same problem. I took them for about 6 months then went off for 2 months and now im back on them. I noticed when I got back on them that all the crazy came back. I didn't make the connection until then. I just though I was going through things, but no it was the pill. I have heard good things about the ring so I am going to the gyno soon to make the switch. I have done my reserch and I think it's the best option. Good Luck

I was told by my doctor that any hormonal BC will have the same side effects. I'm sure everyone is different. But I think in the 7 years I was on the pill I took 4 different kinds and they were all the same. Maybe an IUD is a better method for you gals?

IUD (Intra Uterine Device) is basically a device inserted into the uterus. It does not keep eggs from being fertilized but does interfere with the ability of your uterus to allow them to implant into the uterine wall. So, they just get expelled. Some churches believe this = abortion and have banned their use. IUD's work very well for some women, not so much with others. Lots of advantages to it - search U.S. Centers for Disease Control "CDC" or U.S. Public Health Service or MedlinePlus websites (or any other vetted info source) and you can find lots of info

Other non-hormonal b.c. options include the diaphram and the cervical cap - both work the same way, by blocking the enterance to the uterus so the man's 'lil wigglers' can't enter. (I use the cap and love it).

Course, condoms do the same thing essentially

All kinds of bc have advantages and disadvantages. Check out for y'self and don't be afraid to switch if what y're using isn't right for you.

I had these same symptoms when I was on Ortho Lo, I waited the three month period because that's the least you can do when you take them. If you still feel bad after 3 months, I suggest maybe trying, if you feel up to it, something with lower estrogen. I know that when I switched to a lower dose oestrogen pill my world really improved. Or use an IUD if you don't think you can handle the hormonal stuff.

There are some pills on the market that are also low-dosage estrogen. Just a suggestion though.

I second the recommendation for a non-hormonal (copper) IUD.

I too was terribly emotional (crying at laundry detergent commercials and whatnot) when I was on the pill, and the brand name didn't seem to matter.

I'm temporarily on Yaz right now to regulate my cycles and, again, I've become overly sensitive. It was great, watching a commercial for Pizza Hut the other day and tearing up. YEESH.

Oh gee, Mes. I'm sorry to hear that.
I hope you can get through the 3 months.. sorry to hear that Yaz might not be good for you.

i tried the pill when i was about sixteen and it came off it a month afterwards because it messed up my blood pressure.
last year i had the mirena coil fitted and it sparked a manic epsiode which landed me in hospital.

                    the copper iud is great
but the mirena has hormones in it and if hormones are you problem then think very carefully about getting the hormonal iud.
