The Pill and Pregnancy Questions- please read

    Hi all,

I know this has probably been asked before but I couldn't find a thread that quite satisfied my questions. So if you kind ladies could help me out I would appreciate it.

I'm just a tad concerned what I had done a bit ago might not have been safe. My boyfriend of three years and I had unprotected sex (I mean without condoms, as I am on the pill) , which we do on a regular basis. Except this time, we got well into it and I told him he didn't have to pull out before he ejaculated. This was the first time we let this happen, and now I don't know if it was a good idea.

Does the Pill protect against this 99.9 percent of the time, or is it only if you pull out or use a condom as well? I've read my packets a few times, and it just doesn't specify.

Also, I found it quite odd that even a day after the sex, when i go to the bathroom I still have some "leakage" if you know what I mean. Is that normal? My man tends to have an abundance of semen. Could this still get me pregnant if it's still in my system?

Is there a certain time frame while on the Pill that it's easier to get pregnant?

I'll appreciate any feedback. Thanks for your help!

That is 99.9% with correct use of the pill only. As long as you are taking your pill regularly, you should have no problems.

If you let him finish in you, you will have leakage. It's common and normal, don't worry about it.

Just MAKE sure you take it every single day. Don't skip a day, and try to take it around the same time every day.

And if it were me, I'd skip sex on placebo pill days (even if I wasn't on my period) because I actually ovulated during this time once (weird...but weird things happen sometimes!) so realistically I could have gotten pregnant. But that parts up to you.

Either way, long as you're taking it as its supposed to be taken and not having any major concerns....... I wouldn't worry too much.

        Thanks for the responses!

I take my pill every day at the exact same time. To remember I set alarms
I've been on the pill for over six months now, and have only missed a few, but made sure to make them up and NOT have sex for awhile after.

Beautiful Disaster, that IS odd that you ovulated at that time. I should take that into consideration, and maybe if I do decide to have sex then I will use condoms as backup.

Again, thank you both. You have calmed my nerves (for now, lol!)

Could someone explain why having sex on the placebo pills might be dangerous? Because I've always been assured that you're just as protected during the placebos as you are at any other time...

Your guess is as good as mine. I've never heard it and for 12 years on the pill, never had any issues of having sex while on the placebos.

There should be no problem having sex on placebo days. The Pill is designed to keep you from ovulating completely. Some are also designed to thicken your cervical mucus, so that even if you ovulate, nothing can get in.
The only way I think you could ovulate on the pill is if your body's cycle is set to ovulate very quickly after having your period. But by the second month, this shouldn't be a problem.
You should ask your doctor to explain to you how exactly YOUR particular pill works. If you're worried about ovulation, try charting your basal temperature to see if you can pinpoint a time in the month when it might be happening.
With the Pill, you should be able to enjoy allowing your boyfriend to ejaculate inside you. So good luck

Perhaps I'm the oddball. Apparently what happened with me was when I was on a pill that had 7 placebo pills, 7 days was too long for me. My body tried to ovulate twice (on two different cycles) while on placebo pills, which resulted in an ovarian cyst. I remember my doctor sort of blowing it off, then I said "well, with this type of cyst, I couldn't have gotten it unless I had ovulated, right?" , he said "right", and I said "So why am I ovulating if I"m on the pill? And if I'm ovulating, even once in a blue moon while on the pill, then I could get pregnant?" and he got this blank look like "oops..." and changed my pills to one with 4 placebo's instead of 7. Basically, it wasn't really the pills fault, it was just not right for me I suppose.

That's certainly not to say that would happen to ANY of you, but for a youngster trying to prevent pregnancy.....I dunno, I guess because of what happened with me, I'd say better safe than sorry during those days.

They should be that effective, as long as you are taking them at the same timeish AND you aren't taking any otc or prescriptions drugs or herbs that might affect their strength. The leakage thing happens. Sometimes for several hours or even the next day..no worries.

Just know that even. 0.01 is a small chance and I have known people who have gotten pregnant on the pill so if you want to just be extra safe, you could always use a spermicide or something along that line if you aren't allergic

I have a friend who is an RN and she has 3 kids ... all conceived while on the pill.

I agree with kygirl's suggestion - use a spermicide or even a condom (I personally hate the feeling of a condom) to make certain that you are safe.

Also an fyi in case you didn't already know, a man's pre-cum can contain sperm so pulling out before he ejaculates does not mean that no sperm has entered - some of those little guys could be in there, not stopping for directions!
