    Breakthrough bleeding on yasmin

Hello, I just registered here so I can get some opinions from other women...

I've been on yasmin for about 2 years and it has been pretty great, I have noticed my breasts being very tender in the past few months, but my cycle has always been somewhat normal, so I'm assuming that that's just been a symptom of the pill.

I usually take the pills religiously, but the past couple weeks I accidentally missed one and took a few others a couple hours late. I made up for these all and have been taking my pills everyday at the same time for the past week. (I'm sorry for the TMI ahead): About two days ago, I noticed that I was having what looked like dried, crusted blood in my underwear. It wasn't heavy like a period, and I just assumed that it was "breakthrough bleeding." This is the 3rd day of it happening..there is a little bit less today but it is still the same brown, dried blood colour..as well as on toilet paper after I use the bathroom. It says that bleeding between periods is a symptom that happens within the first 4 packs of pills and it has been 2 years for me. I should also mention that I have been having unprotected sex with my boyfriend, I have never had a scare with my pills before in the time that I've been on them, so we don't use a condom.

I am not having any other symptoms of pregnancy, my breasts aren't really tender and when I spoke with my college's nurse, she said that this bleeding was normal and happens to a lot of women especially when they are dealing with stress (which I have been.) I basically just want some opinions from other women before I make an appointment or start freaking out too much...(which I kind of already am...)

note: my period is supposed to start in about a week according to my pack.

Give me some help! I'm pretty scared

    Hi,
    Welcome to the forums.

if you have been on the pills this whole time and taking them correctly more or less (you said you have made up for them.) then you have been protected from pregnancy. There is no need to use a condom (unless you are protecting yourself from STI's which is a good thing) while being on the pill. So no worries there.

It is common for folks to break through bleed. I did that on Yaz as well, and I was on it for over a year. I was on the pill continuously though and I think my body needed a break. (I was doing 3-4-5 packs before having a period)

However, if you want to ease your mind, as you can still get pregnant on the pill even in ideal circumstances, you can take a hpt a week after your period is supposed to come. If it comes and seems normal, great. Since the withdrawal bleed on the pill isn't a true period, if you feel like you have to set your mind at ease go ahead and test, won't hurt ya.

Don't stress out too much, things will be okay
    Good luck
    -YW

        Hi,
        Welcome to the forums.

Your symptoms could be your body adjusting from coming off the pill. Sometimes it takes up to 2-3 months for your body to stabilize back to normal hormonal levels. If you want, you can take another test in a couple of days. If it really bothers you though you can go see your ob/gyn.

        Good luck!
