    The sponge

Has anyone on here had experience with using the sponge? As a sole means of contraception?

    Thanks

Yes I used it back in the 80s. Tastes foul but otherwise it worked great. Used to be able to buy them in the pharmacy w/o a prescription so they were great for implulse situations if I didn't have my diaphram.

I used them way back when hubby and I were dating. No problems with it.

The sponge is an over the counter contraceptive. It is essentially a small, shaped sponge loaded with spermacide, which rests against the cervix. It doesn't protect against STIs. You can do a search to get more details.

the sponge is an over the counter contraceptive which you insert yourself. It is single use and must be kept in for 6 hours after having sex. You can put the sponge in place over your cervix 24 hours before sex but you must not leave it in for more than 30 hours total (including 6 hours after sex). I think thats due to a risk of TSS. They are around the same price as condoms, but only have a 87% success rate with typical use and a 91% average success rate with perfect use.

I used it for a while a few years ago and got BV after leaving it in after sex. That was it for me.
