    stopping birth control

I stopped taking my birth control a week ago because my husband and I are going to try to get pregnant. I was about two weeks away from my period week when I quit, and a few days later I started my period. Is this normal? And also I've heard that it can take a few weeks to become fertile again, and then I've also heard that you are at your most fertile when you first stop. I'm assuming that these are both true?

What you're experiencing is normal. Your cycle may take a while to normalize.

Yes I too have heard that it can take a while to become fertile once stopping birth control, up to a few months.

However I've never heard that you're most fertile when you first stop. That doesn't make any sense to me.

Was your pill monophasic or triphasic?
You've just stopped taking a pill that artificially regulates your cycle - so an irregular period is totally normal.
What I've heard is that it takes about 3 cycles for your ovulation cycle to readjust to being on its own and ovulating normally again. While you may get pregnant very quickly, if it takes time just take deep breaths! Getting pregnant is not necessarily as easy as we were all led to believe in high school sex ed. For some people, it's very difficult.

I was on birth control called apri. It actually made me INSANE! And thats why I stopped taking it and I was thinking of going on a different kind. But then we decided to get pregnant. Kind of funny how it worked out, but I will never go back to apri again.
