If you don't need your BC for conception protection, you can just take the placebo pills (or no pills, the placebos are just place holders so you don't forget to start taking them again) for a few extra days, four if that's what you think she suggested. If you need it for protection, it's a different story and you REALLY need your doctor's advice.
As far as suggesting you take the active pills, we really can't. There are different kinds of pills (monophasic or triphasic, different kinds of hormones, etc.) The instructions change with each one. And since 75%+ of the people on this board live in the US, Canada, UK, or Australia, chances are we haven't taken the same pills as you are taking now.
If your pill is monophasic, ie just one dosage of hormones throughout, you don't even HAVE to take placebo pills or have a "period." It's not technically a period anyways, just withdrawal bleeding. You could take your active pills for months at a time. Triphasic pills are different, skipping "periods" with them is a pain.
Essentially what you have to do here is "skip" your period for 4-5 days, then let it come. Maybe you can google the name of your pills and find some instructions for skipping, then tailor your own plan. But remember that your conception control might not be as effective without having followed the strict instructions you've been given.
