    Yeast Infections & Trinessa

    Hi,

Let me give y'all some background. I have been on Trinessa for about a 1 year and 10 months. I switched because I switched jobs and the nuva ring was getting to expensive under the new insurance plan. However, I have been on BC since I was 19; I have not had any problem since this past January, when I got the worse yeast infection ever. However, before the yeast infection, I have been on Ortho Tri Cyclen, Ortho Evra (patch), and the nuva ring and have not had any problems. Plus, I have only had protected sex with my boyfriend of 4 years (we have never had unprotected sex). Now, since January I have had recurrent yeast infections, back to back. I have continued to take Trinessa because my GYN insists that the Trinessa is not causing the yeast infections; Although, I have been to the GYN almost one a month since January. Also, figured it may be diabetes; so, I had my General Practitioner test for Blood sugar and I was fine. My last Blood sugar reading was in April. Finally, this past visit (2 weeks ago) the GYN tells me that I have BV!? So, then I figure I have been misdiagnosed all these months. The GYN does a culture on my last visit and I come back negative for everything. But, I still have the same discharge that I had for months - very pasty, sometimes a little clumpy, but thick, associated with external vaginal itching. The discharge is more heavy when I workout. So, I go back to the GYN and she tells me everything is fine, but gives me a diflucan to see if that helps. I did not take the pill because she said it was not yeast so why take it. So, today I finally take the pill because the discharge is still the same, but the external itch is gotten worse. I am really at a lost here; I never had this issue before. I have come to the conclusion that I may have to stop taking the Trinessa, because I tried of hitting up the GYN once a month. My mothers and sisters think I am being over dramatic but this really needs to be resolved. Moreover, my boyfriend is getting pretty irritated with the fact of matter, as he wants to have unprotected sex in the near future.

One thing that you can do to prevent yeast infections is to eat yogurt. At least one yogurt a day helps with balancing out the bacteria in the vagina. It is normal for women to have bacteria in the vagina but its a balanced level. When those levels get to high that is where yeast infections and UTI's come in. Yogurt really does help. Also, if you continue to have this problem, you can dip a tampon in some regular yogurt and put it in and take it out, this will also help with yeast infections. If you don't feel comfortable with that, there are a lot of over the counter yeast infection kits, but you really want to make sure that what you have is truly a yeast infection. I wouldn't doubt that your birth control is causing this. That is actually a side effect listed under most birth controls, that you can get yeast infections. I know when I was on the pill right away, I got one. I would try a different pill maybe. See what happens. You never know.

I am having the same recurring problem as well but the gyn insist on me staying on Trinessa. I never had such a huge problem before with recurring yeast infections before until I started taking these bc's. I also get tender breast a lot and it is very irritating. I use to be on the Depo shot and did not have these problems. So I am on the internet to see if other people are having the same problem so that I don't feel too crazy.

Dr. Marjorie Crandell (yeast specialist, microbiologist, and PHD) says to stay away from BCpills because any kind of estrogen attracts yeast. I'd find another birth control until you can clear this up. Use a non-hormonal BC, and also, stay away from spermacides which can harbor yeast. I've done a lot of research on this for myself. Obtions? Copper IUD is what my gyno suggested, or condom.
Try taking Phemdophilus daily. The reviews are really terrific, and this can clear up a lot of problems such as BV, burning, and yeast overgrowth. The yogurt NEVER helped me one bit, not eating or tampons. Try inserting a garlic clove - pierce several times, wrap in gauze, tie each end with dental floss, dip in olive oil and insert. Leave in for the day, or sleep all night. This really helps!!!!!
Others have tried a tampon with tea tree and seemed to have success with that.
