    Paragard

I'm in need of some advice.. I was on birth control for about 8 years and recently had a paragard put in(in April to be exact) since then I have not had my period..I get cramps sometimes around when I should menstruate...but no more than that. It sort of resembles the same effects as puberty all over again.... This is silly, but can I become pregnant without a period and has anyone else experienced this..I know the paragard is suppose to increase pain and menstral flow...

I had the Paragard. It was horrible for me. I NEVER had heavy periods and then when i got that thing put in i had the worst most painful periods. I know with the Paragard your body ovulates and cycles normally, so you should be getting a period. Paragard contains no hormones. So if you havent gotten your period, maybe tell your dr, or take a pregnancy test??? NOW the Mirena makes your periods go away....but i have never heard of that happening with the copper IUD.

I had a non hormonal IUD for years without the slightest problem. See your health care provider. This really shouldn't cause you these problems, perhaps something else is going on?

I have been on the pill now for a few years, and I just learned about ParaGard-- unlike the other IUD mentioned, this one has no hormones, and once inserted by the doctor, it lasts for up to 10 years, but you can take it out whenever you want. According to the website, since there are no hormones, you can start trying for pregnancy immediately after you take it out, and on the flip side, it supposedly begins working the day you have it put in! (no few week waiting period like the pill)

i does have side effects as well like low hemoglobine and migraines.

Yes that is correct. It works immediately. It is also another form of a back up birth control (like plan b).

Are you sure it is not due to the previous hormonal birth control? Myself and others stopped having periods for many months after stopping NuvaRing. Of course, a pregnancy test would be prudent.
