Most women don't have the proper facts before having the procedure done, so its ignorance on their part if their relying on their OB/GYN to give them every little detail. The procedure MUST be done no later than the 10th (latest the 12th) day after the first day of your period. Thats when the endometrial lining is at its thinest and placement made much easier! My doctor put me out completely and I'm so glad he did! I've read the stories and pamphlet on how it can be done in about 15 minutes, surprisingly what woman complain about is that they received a numbing shot for their uterus so they could not feel the hysteroscope, or they watched the procedure as well which makes the body tense up and felt pain. Well if a doctor tells me he has to numb my uterus, that in itself its a clear indication that there is more to this procedure that meets the eye! You must be COMPLETELY STILL during placement, no wiggling, no cringing as that can jeopardize placement. As all our bodies are all completely different, the pamphlet specifically states that you should take it easy the first few days! Meanwhile, woman are jumping off the table and going to the gym, work or shopping afterwards! This could be why why coils fall out or perforate the uterus within the first 3 months!! I took the whole day off to recover from the anesthesia and had very little bleeding. I was given a prescription for pain and was to take it as necessary. Advil will work, but some of the cramping can be painful as the coils are a foreign object in my body, yes I can feel where they where placed, the fallopian tubes are tender and your body is reacting normally. Another thing, many doctors ask you to come back in 3 months! Where is the 2 week post procedure visit? That ONE visit can make or break your experience! The doctor will do an xray to ensure the coils have stayed in place, if not, then the next step is determined to either remove it or reinsert another coil.
I'm not saying that some of the stories are untrue, however, use your common sense and don't let your doctor convince you of something you have absolutly no knowledge about. Some had the procedure done without having any knowledge of how the procedure needs to be done and the adverse effects on the human body! I read one story yesterday of a woman who had the procedure done ONE day before her period, and now she's having problems with her coils! Then the story of a woman who let her doctor to convince her to insert the coils that same day!!!
I implore all women to read the facts on the website and every single pdf document that they have! Most importantly, get a second opinion if you feel your questions aren't being answered!! My experience so far has been a good one, although its only been a couple of days, but I wouldn't have gone thru the procedure without having all of my facts in hand!
Good luck to all of you preparing for this procedure.
