My doctor told me that during the first month of taking the BC pill, I should still use protection because my body hasn't adjusted. It's been almost two weeks into my birth control pills. I have unprotected sex with my boyfriend almost every night.

Could you get pregnant during the first month of taking your BC pills? If so, and you continue taking your BC pills without knowing your pregnant, would the BC pills make the pregnancy in-viable, or could you remain pregnant and ultimately risk having a baby born with deformities?

My breasts are super sore. I know for me this is a sign of pregnancy. I've been pregnant twice before and sore breasts were always my first sign. I don't start my period for another week and two days, and my breasts have been sore for about a week and a half, so about mid cycle they started hurting...IDK

Yes. Nothing is absolute when preventing pregnancy except abstinence.

No. You would notice the lack of a period when you should be having one sending the first red flag for a possible pregnancy. Technically anyone on the pill that has gotten pregnant did not expect it to happen either so they would have had the pill coursing through their body while pregnant. In those scenarios it does not equate birth abnormalities.

In the first place, the pill hormonally is designed to mimic pregnancy, so this mimicking may be the reason for your sore breasts.

Keep in mind that depending on the brand of the pill and exactly when in your cycle you started taking it, your period this month may not arrive when you think you're due.

May I ask why you've been having unprotected sex if the doctor warned you against it? Any way you can use something else for the next couple of weeks?

SP - If you're not worried about getting pregnant, then why take the pill? Not to be harsh...but if you're not going to follow the instructions necessary to prevent pregnancy, then why bother taking the pill at all?

Good point Beautiful Disaster, I know it kinda makes no sense huh? Well, I started taking the pill as a precaution, I guess. I wanted to get into a good habit. I've never been on steady birth control before. I've started it before a couple of times, then quit taking it due to side effects such as sore breasts and such. I always had this mindset that if I get pregnant, I get pregnant, and maybe there is a reason for it. I wouldn't view an unplanned pregnancy in my life as a mistake if I'm having unprotected sex, because that would be stupid. Before I was taking the pill, my boyfriend and I were still having unprotected sex knowing that we could get pregnant. It didn't really bother me, the thought of getting pregnant, and I don't think it bothered him either. We just know it's BEST to take steps in preventing it. But, say I missed a pill and got pregnant, I wouldn't be shocked or horrified. Neither would he. We're both adults and can handle that situation because it's life. So, I guess that's why I'm not too worried about pregnancy happening, I'm more so trying to get a good habit in swing, so ultimately I don't have to think about getting pregnant. Does that make any sense? So, if I get pregnant, I get pregnant. But if I don't, I don't. I'd much rather not get pregnant until I'm ready, but I guess, when can you ever be absolutely ready for something like that?

Yeah...but the reason for it would be...because you had unprotected sex during a time in which you were fertile...the egg got fertilized, implanted, etc. Not because you and the person you conceived with were "meant to be" or "destined to bring a life into the world". I think you are minimizing the idea of getting pregnant. If you've always been rather carefree about it.....then consider yourself lucky you didn't get pregnant by previous boyfriends....because at the time you were with them, did you not believe you loved them with all your heart? You'd be a single mom by now.

Your relationship is very new. I know it's serious and I'm super happy for you. But if it's real then there's no need to rush anything...and if it's real then USE the birth control like it's supposed to be used until you two have had a chance to truly build and establish your relationship. Treating pregnancy like it's a "oh well if it happens it happens" sort of thing is IMO not very wise....not for either one of you.

I'm not rushing anything, but I'm definitely not going to stress myself out about taking every single precaution necessary. With my luck, if I did that, I'd definitely end up pregnant. Like I said, I'm still trying to get used to making it a habit. My month is almost over, so hopefully my body is adjusting itself and in a week I won't have to worry. I was more worried about birth control causing deformities if pregnancy were to happen while taking the pill, rather than actually getting pregnant. That's why I posted this thread. But thank you everyone for your thoughts.
