January 2004 I had the Mirena IUD inserted. My doctor went on and on about how great this product was and that it was basically fool proof. Well from the get go I had problems. I had alot of pain in my back that was dibilitating and I had pain in my lower parts along with stomach pains. Every time I went to be checked out they said nothing was wrong with me. Over the next 2 1/s yrs I had the following problems which I believe to have been caused by the IUD. I had back pain, mood swings, hair loss, memory loss, seizures, vaginal cysts, constant urniary tract infections and yeast infections. I was sick alot and tired alot ( probably from all the things I was going through ) (by the way since removal alot of the side effects have dissipated) In may 2006 I started bleeding (which with the mirena you dont have periods) so I knew something wasn't right. So I went to the hospital and to make long story short I was pregnant with a tubal and had to have surgery to remove it along with a form of chemo to rid myself of the babies remaining tissue that was left in my tube. I almost died from internal bleeding and now my tube is so scarred making it possible I may not concieve again and I am only 23 yrs old. My whole story is on groups.myspace.com/IUDnot4ME . I urge you to join so that together we can share our stories and maybe bring some awareness to whats going on. I am even thinking about taking this to the media..something needs to be done and before you get an IUD please please research more. Even though some may have no problems, with everyone who does why take the chance!!!!!! please be careful what you put into your body!

I am so sorry to hear all that you went through ! This device is crazy ! I had the Mirena inserted in 3/06 and had it removed in 2/07. I had :
Depression
Mood swings
Hair loss
Bloated
Weight gain
Pain during sex (even with lubricant)
my DH could ALWAYS feel the strings
Memory loss
Constant Fatigue (Fell asleep driving too many times)
Ovarian Cysts
No sex drive what-so-ever
Severe acne - I now have scars - before I had a perfect complexion
Persisitant bacterial vaginosis for the entire 11 months
I was told none of these were from the device. I now know that it is not true. Once the device was removed I felt immediate relief. It took about 3 months for my symptoms to go away, which is about the same time it took for my cycles to return to normal. -
well i was told my symptoms were not from the iud either and I am not a fool! seeing how many people have these symptoms I know better now...how can these ppl market this product? I read somewhere that i believe in the 1970's the original maker of the IUD went bankrupt due to so many lawsuits and it was pulled off the market until a new group bought it out and supposedly fixed the problems and it went back up on the market.....if the problems have supposedly been fixed I would hate to see what would happen to a person if they used it back then...I'm still doing all I can to bring awareness to this and am talking to lawyers. I am wondering why attorneys are so afraid to take on a class action suit. If anything is worth going to court over, to me it would be this device that has hurt so many and will continue to do so as long as it is available to women.~LuvlyAthena~Comment
