Well my iud did come out but that's because my uterus rejected it. It cramped up for 3 weeks trying to shove that thing out before it finally succeeded. Generally an IUD does not come out on it's own and exercise will not cause it to happen. It takes internal pressure or pulling on the strings. They hold the cervix open (sometimes they use meds to dilate it) in order to fit the iud through it.

Will it be stupid to use just condoms? They are the only form that doesn't appear to have any health risks...

Except for allergic reactions or sensitivity to latex. Not to mention condom slippage, breaking, and improper use of putting one on.

I have had a copper IUD for about six months and couldn't be happier. After years of having my sex drive stifled from birth control it was a welcome change, for both me and my partner. I would highly recommend this for anyone wanting to try something natural.

It did hurt going in, very, very uncomfortable but only for about 5 minutes. I also had it done at a womens clinic so they had some one to hold my hand. I had cramps all day and sporadically for about a month, nothing major, and nothing a couple advil couldn't fix at the worst of times. Now I seem to be back to normal, slightly heavier periods, but no longer, still five days. Oh and I am a 25 yr old who's never been pregnant, and never had an abortion.

Please please please consider the side effects before you get the copper IUD. I have had mine for a year now and it has been the worse year of my life, I've suffered from depression, anxiety, I am grumpy and stressed out which is NOT like me at all. My allergies have got gradually worse and I now have to take an inhaler for my hayfever. I have put on about 17lbs even though I am now doing MORE exercise and eating healthier. and worse of all....the period pains....OMG its unbearable; I get these waves of pain in my stomach that makes me feel sick, queasy and makes my legs go completely numb...as well as hot sweats!

At first I thought it was just me, getting older or taking on more work; however I have spent the past few days doing my research and there are thousands and thousands of women experiencing the same side effects as me. If you look up copper toxicity you can read about high levels of copper on the body and how it effects you.

I am getting my coil out ASAP and looking forward to getting back to my normal self

I also read on quite a few different forums that the copper IUD doesnt prevent pregnancy it just makes your womb inhospitable so the baby doesnt have chance to develop and practically self aborts...Im not sure if this is 100% true but it does kind of make sense.

Anyways good luck...I hope if you get the IUD you have a better experience than me but pleeeeease do lots of research!

You eat more copper in your regular diet than is released from the copper IUD on a daily basis. To get copper toxicity you literally need to eat a bar of copper, the IUD DOES NOT release those types of amounts. It is all over real research if a person looks, fear mongering websites who have a disdain for birth control in the first place are the ones who will give a person the wrong impression about such devices.

I also read on quite a few different forums that the copper IUD doesnt prevent pregnancy it just makes your womb inhospitable so the baby doesnt have chance to develop and practically self aborts...Im not sure if this is 100% true but it does kind of make sense.
Correct. The IUD does not prevent pregnancy, no form of birth control other than abstinence prevents pregnancy. Everything has a failure rate simply because not all women are the same. Granted the failure rate is very small, in the 0.01-1% range but it is still not a complete loss if you get the procedure done. As for the way it works it does make the environment inhospitable for conception, particularly the part of the fertilized egg latching onto the uterine lining. That is why the IUD works, all it takes is essentially a roadblock and no implantation can occur.

                  IUD and bloating?

I got my IUD inserted two weeks ago and am still experiencing a lot of bloating...is this common? I googled 'IUD and bloating' and bunch of stuff came up about weight gain on the IUD, but I'm definitely not gaining weight. In fact, I feel so bloated that I don't want to eat much at all and have lost 3 pounds in the last 2 weeks. I've also been pooping like crazy since I had it put in...which, for me isn't a bad thing as I tend to run on the constipated side. Just some weird stuff I was curious about. Other than that I feel the IUD is working out ok. It was VERY painful to have inserted (I've never had children before) but after the first 4 days of cramping I felt no more cramping pains. And I haven't had much bleeding at all, just a little pink every now and then. I did feel a lot of pressure while sitting, but it's finally starting to subside now. All-in-all I'm happy so far.

Also, I've read a lot of women talking about copper toxicity with the copper IUD. It's such a small amout of copper that it doesn't seem like it should be an issue...BUT, I started taking a small zinc supplement (along with all my other vitamins and antioxidants and stuff), because it's supposed to help neutralize the copper in your system. Just a quick and easy suggestion for women that are worried about the copper issue.

I'll be interested to hear if any other women are having the bloating a pooping symtoms that I'm having. Thanks!

I had my Copper IUD inserted at Marie Stopes about 2 weeks ago. I'm 25 and have a 6 yr old child. I have used implanon before and had no troubles what so ever my period completely stopped for 3 yrs an no cramping but the downside was I gained weight. When I had it removed I dropped the weight instantly and decided to give my body a rest before doing another contraceptive. When I went to Marie Stopes I found them as always very clean, professional and helpful. I discussed with the gyn my different options and choices and decided to go with the IUD called Multiload. About an hour after I left I collapsed/fainted. I fainted when I was younger a few times but never in my adulthood. Since then almost every day I have been dizzy and sick and although I haven't had any heavy bleeding and no cramping what so ever, it has affected me considerably. I have been back for a check up and they did an ultrasound confirming that the IUD was correctly in place etc... My blood pressure is fine but my pulse is constantly elevated. I'm terrified to go somewhere on my own incase I pass out again. I'm well aware that worrying about this doesn't help. I never researched anything before I got it done and I really wish I had. I'm getting it removed and will never have it again! Also it wasn't covered by Medicare and cost me AU$ 160. If anyone else has had any feelings like this or any insight, I'd love to hear it.

Danny L, how did it work out for you? I am curious. I am considering getting one.
