Is it normal? how much does it cost to get removed?

I have had the mirena since January 2010 (my senior year of high school). I got it because once I graduated I would no longer have health insurance. For the last few months I have been having very sharp stabbing pains in lower stomach, so bad that I often wake up from them. About a month ago I started bleeding non-stop, at first I thought it was it was normal but 2 days ago it felt like a full-on period, I thought that after about a year they were supposed to be spotty if anything. I have also gained a good 50 lbs since I got and my eating habits have not changed and i have walking aorund my college campus everyday since I started school, is that normal or could there be another reason?

Also, does anyone know how much it costs to get removed without health insurance?

It shouldn't cost much more than an office visit. It's a very simple process. This is why I always encourage the you not get an IUD with hormones. Its most likely the artificial hormones causing the problem. An IUD is a very effective method all by itself, there is not good reason to add hormones to it.

The only reason why I got this one was because my foster mother had and she thought it would be good for me to use since I would be a college student and not have insurance to pay for anyother type of birth control.

That was good thinking, but an IUD is all you need for BC, you don't need the added hormones with it. There just seem to be a lot of problems with that type. I think the reason they add hormones is to shorten your period and just causes a lot of side effects.

Do you have a clinic on campus? Why don't you have insurance? In my state the colleges require proof of coverage before they will enroll you.

If I would have known the side effacts were this bad I wouldn't have gotten it.

We do but they have no idea what they are doing. They told a friend of mine (a guy) that he was pregnant. I have been in foster care since I was 2 years old and was never adopted. I was on passport but I guess they don't apply to the new health care bill. I got an extention when I turned 18 (jr yr of h.s.) and they said that once I graduated from high school I would no longer have it. I have been looking for health insurance for the last few months but haven't been able to find any that I can afford. My college doesn't for some reason, they bigger colleges do but Morehead State, which bugs me.

My IUD was half out so all she had to do was grab the strings sticking out and pull and my doctor's office billed it as a surgery at $300. Ask before hand and go somewhere cheap like planned parenthood. If you have no insurance they will rate the procedure by your income.

Here so long as you are enrolled over half time you stay on your parent's insurance until you turn 24.

I have been in fost care since I was 2. My foster family is retired military and the military wont let me be on it because I was never adopted.
