I'm 17 years old & once I started on Depo it stopped my menstrual cycle completely. I've been experiencing painful sex & extreme mood swings. Everything is just now starting to add up for me...I've been trying to figure out why I've been experiencing these problems & I've come to the conclusion that it's the shot after researching online & hearing the same effects from other women. Every single day I experience these mood swings. I get really irritable & moody. With the painful sex, it's not just a now and then situation..it happens every time. So that's not normal!! & it's really scaring me & I'm afraid that I'll never be able to enjoy sex again...I'm afraid to have sex. I've gotten checked for STDS twice & both times the doctor has thought that I had Clamydia or Gonnorrhea but both times I've showed up clean. It's been 4 months since my last depo shot & I've switched to the pill. (ortho trycyclen lo.) I've been on the pill for 29 days & I just started my period today. Everytime I start reading about Depo Provera all it makes me do is cry. I will never take this type of birth control again!!

I am on depo provera. the reason for mood swings and no period is that it works by suppressing hormones. not sure about the pain during sex though.

Well now you know that the shot doesn't work for you, at least there's that.

All your symptoms should disappear once the shot wears off completely. In the meantime use more lube and go slower with sex, if you're not already.
