    New to birth control...late period.

Okay so this month I began taking birth control for the first time. I'm on Ortho Tri-Cyclen. The normal dose. I began it exactly when I was told, the Sunday after my period even though I was still bleeding my doctor told me it was fine. I was supposed to get my period on Monday the 14th but I didn't, now it's the 16th and it still isn't here. My doctor told me the birth control doesn't take full effect until the second pack so every time I have had sex we've used a condom. I'm up to the third pill in my placebo week and my period still isn't here. I'm not trying to sound paranoid but I just want to make sure everything is normal. Is it normal for my period to be late? What if it doesn't show up at all? Should I take a pregnancy test just in case? My period has always been regular and on time and now all of a sudden it's not. Is my body just getting used to the hormones? I have no signs of bleeding at all and no PMS or cramping or anything. If anybody could help answer any of these questions that would be great. Thank you so much!

This is totally normal! Our bodies can take a while to get used to the pill, which can definitely mess with the menstrual cycle! If you've been taking the pill as instructed and using condoms, the chances of you being pregnant are so slim they're nearly impossible, so try not to worry. If you can't ease your mind go to the drugstore and pickup a dirt-cheap HPT to take just to calm your nerves.

There's a really good chance your period/cycle could be screwed up for a few months to come... ahhhh, the wonders of BC. Take it so you don't have to worry about pregnancy, and constantly be worried about pregnancy because it messes with your cycle so much. Isn't it grand? lol

I am on the same birth control! I think that is normal. I start my first placebo pill today and i won't get my period until saturday. So it takes about 3-4 days after starting the placebo pill for me.

You have nothing to worry about, for a couple of reasons.

First, since this is your first month on the pill, your cycle may be adjusting. It may take a couple of cycles to become regular, but most women eventually become very regular on the pill.

Second and more important, most women don't get their periods as soon as they start the placebos. Most of my girlfriends start about halfway through, on the second or third placebo. I start my new packs on Sunday, too, and I always get my period on Wednesday mornings. So try not to worry. :-)
