IUD- Does any one know what the removal prosses is?

I Have had the IUD in now for two years and I am 21 with no children, it was so painful having it fitted and the first two months were a nightmare. As time moved on I became used to it and I do believe I made the right choice!

However I have been thinking about the removal of the coil lately and have done research online but found nothing. So I am looking for anyone who has knowledge of how drs remove it, how painful it is and how did it effect your health (weight, hormone) afterwards.

    Thank you

I just had mine removed after 4.5 yrs and it was relatively painless. During a vaginal exam while they have you "opened" they use a tweezer like tool to grasp the strings which will flatten the T to a line and it comes right out. With that being said this is the design. It may be more painful for you because your cervix hasn't dilated to deliver a child (I've had 2), or if you can no longer feel your strings there may be some complications that will result in a more painful removal. The after effects will depend on which type you had and if you get another form of BC.

I had the non coil one and I didnt even know they took it out until they had shown me. For the rest of the day I did have minor cramping and a few spots. They remove it just as NatashaF stated and it is super quick!
