IUD Without Having A Kid?
Has anyone ever gotten the IUD done without having had a kid first? How much did it hurt? Did you have any complications after it was taken out? I'm considering this because my husband is saying he won't be ready for a long time for kids (I'm almost 25 and he's almost 28) and since he's not I was gonna focus on getting to my peak physical fitness level. Any suggestions? -
It can be slightly more painfull for women who've never had a child and you also would have a 5% chance of expelling it within the first year. Every person is different though. I have a friend who had one child and said it did hurt, but it wasn;t something she couldn't bare. They advise you to take some ibuprofen or some OTC pain reliever before you go as it eases the pain a little. If I were you, I'd make sure you don't have any plans for the rest of the day and possibly the next. I've heard you can cramp for the first few days. Many women, with children and without, have gotten IUD's and if you feel it's the best choice for you, then I say go for it! I might be worth it!
There is another option though if you plan on waiting a few years. There's Implanon which is an implant that goes under the skin in your arm and it lasts 3 years. Sort of the same as an IUD, but a little shorter time span and you don't really have the chance of expulsion. Just a thought! -
There is also a chance that your uterus is too small for the IUD. That can happen to some women who have not had children. Unfortunately you don't know until the doctor tries to insert it.
They say it is safe and won't affect child bearing abilities after you take it out.Freedom is just another word for nothing left to lose - Kris Kristofferson and Fred Foster (sung by Janis Joplin)Comment

My aunt got the copper one years ago and it messed up her uterus.... I also forgot to mention I have a either inverted or retroverted (can't remember which but basically it tilts the opposite direction) uterus.. I'm 24 right now (25 in November) so you never know if my DH will decide to start TTC within the next 5 years - would they be able to easily take it out? I've been trying to do the progesterone only pill (mini-pill) but sometimes I don't hear the alarm and I miss a pill (I missed two this week back to back). But that's only because my brain has been a little foggy recently, I was remembering to take it on time. I can't do the patch because of my weight, I was doing the ring but I was constantly scared it was going to fall out.. I don't want to do essure because I do want to have kids (I'd prefer now rather than later but like I said - Hubs isn't ready).Comment
