Warning..This is a very touchy subject...

I have no clue where to post this but I need a bit of advice...I know abortion is a very sensitive topic for many people, but I thought this through very carefully with my fiance and had a strong support system to help me through it.

I had an in-clinic abortion on Tuesday, September 25th. I was at 7 weeks and a day. The doctor and nurses took great care to prepare me for the procedure which they assured me was successful and the recovery there which was quick. I was informed that after the procedure there would be light to moderate bleeding with some cramping for several days, but If any of it was worse than the first day to contact the clinic. The following day there was barely any bleeding, almost like an extremely light period with almost no cramping and what was there was very minor. Yesterday though I started spotting again and called the clinic. They assured me this was normal for it to change over the next few days..There is still barely any cramping but the bleeding has increased a bit. The nurses warned me that if I'm changing more than two maxi pads within 2 hours then I many need medical attention. I haven't been using those though. Like I said its so light than I'm only using very thin, long pads. I've finished the antibiotics and haven't been exercising or overexerting myself. I've done a bit of driving and have gone back to work but only as a cashier. Its not excessive..just more than it has been and I'm not sure if I'm just being paranoid..I'll understand if no one wants to answer.

I'm sorry to hear about what you've been through - and no, won't judge you - I am pro choice, I wish you a speedy, healthy recovery, and I mean that sincerely.

What you do with your body is your business, not mine or anyone else's.

the doctors said 'may need', not will definitely need. They are just being cautious. I'm not a doctor, neither am I knowledgeable on this type of thing. I can also understand you not wanting to rush back 'there' to be examined again.

I wouldn't worry too much, you're not fulfilling the criteria which would necessitate a 'panic'. I would imagine that the amount of bleeding they mention (which warrants you needing medical attention), accompanied by cramping could be indicative of damage caused to your body by the procedure, based on what you've shared this doesn't sound like it is the case.

I don't think you're being paranoid, I think you are just exercising a sensible amount of caution. I would be irresponsible if I told you that there was no problem. I would just pay close attention and listen to the nurses, if the bleeding increases, or you're uncomfortable just call them back, no harm done. They're nurses it's their job to care for you.

I hope you feel better soon xxx

      Hi Nina,

      Welcome to the Forum

You could just be one of the lucky ones where pain and bleeding is concerned.

It sounds as if you have taken ever precaution not to over do anything, good for you.

Cramping after an abortion is normal, but not everyone will have them so your Nurses saying don't worry are correct.

You may feel some pressure in your lower stomach or some pain in your lower back or inner thighs or nothing at all.

Usually cramps commence on the 3rd or 4th day after and up to 2 - 3 weeks, 25th isn't that long ago so be prepared just in case .

Not all women bleed, some spot and some don't bleed at all, you may also find at some stage that you have some blood clots or brown spotting, don't be concerned about it.

Keep your activity and work load down as much as possible and understand that your body will decide what it can take and can't take therefore, if you bleed or feel sick, pains or don't experience it at all.

Best wishes with your future with your fiance I am sure you will have a bright future.

Thank you for all your support =) I guess I'm just high strung. The only people who even knew I was pregnant are a few disconnected friends and my manager.

You are ok Nina, it is normal. Please don't even concern yourself about how people thinks about your decision to get an abortion. It is your body and your health, you are doing what's best for you, and you deserved to be good to yourself and you are doing the right thing taking good care of yourself.
