will starting a new BC pack a day late mess up my hormones/period?

i am a sunday starter and i wont be able to get to my new pack until monday. i read that if you take it a day late it may be ineffective for preventing pregnancy, but i am not concerned about that (i use condoms and am on the pill mostly to control my period pain). i am just concerned, will it mess up my hormones and period?

also, i missed two pills in the middle of week 3 on this last pack, and i began spotting somewhat heavily. now, i am on my placebo pills and my period should have started yesterday, but it has not. i know im not pregnant, but im just concerned that ive confused my body lol. so i worry if throwing another curveball, taking my new pack a day late, will make my body even more confused!

I don't believe your body is out of whack at the moment. It's just trying to stay on schedule and you're putting in pills that are behind on what it's trying to do. I do think that you are going to need a week of "other means of protection", just to let your body get back on the train 100% with your new pack. Every pack comes with a pamphlet on what to do if you miss a day, or two. So read that and abide by what it's stating. But you'll be fine, just don't depend on the pill to protect you for a week.

The FNP that works at my gynecologist's office told me that the first day of the pack is the worst one to miss, contraception-wise, but since that's not your major concern, you should be okay. Missing the first day of the pack shouldn't mess you up more than missing any other pill, but I agree with Element - your body just wants to stay on schedule!

I start packs late all the time because we have to pay out of pocket for my seasonique which is over $100 since it's 3 months worth of pills at once and it does nothing bad to my period. My husband had a vasectomy and I just take it because I think I have PCOS and it relieves the symptoms. The only problem I have is my symptoms flair up like cysts in my legs and jaw and acne. The missed pills are going to mess things up more than starting the pack a day late. You may spot for awhile because you didn't get a proper period.
