BC help (progestin only vs Paragard)

    Hey guys,

I'm new to the forum and had some questions.

I am 35 and I have been on hormonal BC for most of my adult life. I've had 2 children and after the 2nd in 2008, I tried the Mirena IUD. I had continuous bleeding for 8 months and finally decided to take it out, going back to oral BC. I am not sure that I want anymore children, but am not 100% certain. Anyway, I smoke occasionally, less than 1 a day and mostly for constipation issues (I know I shouldn't but that is not what this post is about so please don't focus on that). Today, I had my annual visit and was going to get refills of Junel 1.5/30, but the doctor refused to give me the refills b/c of the smoking. She instead talked to me about Paragard and also submitted a prescription for progestin only pill.

I have a history of spotting issues and it took me many BC pills to find one that I didn't have spotting on. I'm worried about the progestin only pill and spotting, not to mention making sure I take the pill within 3 hours. I REALLY would want the IUD to work as it seems to be the perfect option...but I'm worried it will be a repeat of the Mirena.

My question is: Have any of you had spotting issues with hormonal BC pills, then tried Paragard with success? I really wanna give it a shot but not if it's going to be constant bleeding again.

    Thanks!!

It's best you discuss your options with Your OB/GYNO, they can give more reasons for and against certain BC.
There's also Norplant that you can have inserted in arm that can give you 5 years of Protection and there is Depo.

And also the old fashioned Condom and Spermicide ..
I can't help you much, I haven't had any BC in almost 40 years.

Do some of your own Research on the Side effects of each Pill or BC you are looking at using . Remember they all Say " Smoking " is not recommended , read up on that . There is a reason, usually Blood Clots.
I'm a smoker, so not bashing you about it.

But you do have Options .. so until you find one you like .. Use the Condoms and a Spermicide, just to be safe .
