First Time using birth control pills help please!

Hello everyone! Im in dire need of help because I will be getting on birth control pills in a few days. I recently scheduled and appointment with my doc to get on birth control. After a lot of reconsideration and research I have decided to get on the pills. But my biggest problem is figuring out which one will be right for me. I have checked online and theres probably hundreds of pills out there. I was wondering if any of you ladies can give me some insight on which pill or pill brand is good for a beginner. Ihappen to be 120 pounds and 5'4 and I happen to be a very active person and if there is weight gain I think It wont be as bad right? I would like to get on something very stable so no hormone fluctuations throughout the pill cycle, little or no weight gain (if available, and I would like to get my period so something that wont disrupt my menstrual cycle.

    Hi,
As far as I know, there are 2 main types of pill. There is the combined pill and the mini pill. The combined pill has 2 hormones, and you take a pill a day for 3 weeks, then have one week of no pills, which on that week you should have your period. The mini pill you take one every day, it has only has one hormone, and you may not have a period on it. If you go to the doctors, they will likely suggest the combined pill.

There are a ton of different kinds of pills - beyond even mini pills and combined pills, there are different hormone formulations, monophasic (one dose all the way through the 28-day cycle like you want,) triphasic (three different phases of dose through the 28-day cycle,) and pills that don't operate on a 28-day cycle at all (like Seasonique, that ideally stop your period for months at a time.)

Your doctor will likely have a "favorite" s/he can give you samples of to see how you like it. If you communicate the same things you've said here you should be able to find a good fit. The pill and hormone dose has to fit with the mechanics of your body (which aren't always easy to figure out) as well as your preferences, so there may be problems getting used to BC at first.

Well Leena, I am a dad of 4 daughters and all 4 use the norco shot that last every 3 months instead of a pill everyday.Maybe asked your obgyn and ask him about the shot. My daughters are very active and very much in shape. They have no side effects at all just my two cents for you to think about.
When out driving always turn left. Then, should you become lost, you can find your way home by reversing the procedure and always turning right.
