    Migraines and Birth Control

I was on Yasmin for three years with no problems until a few months ago when I started getting migraine with auro (about three in as many weeks). I had never had any previously. My doctor took me off of it due to the higher risk of stroke associated with bc and migraine with aura. Now I am on a progestrin only pill (micronor) and have not had a migraine in the almost three months I have been on it. My problem is that the progrestrin only pills are not as effective as the combined ones and I get extremely anxious when I dont get my period like clock work as I did on the Yasmin. I had an MRI and everything was fine and it seems it was the Yasmin that was giving me the headaches. Since the headaches were not pre-existing could it be possible to try me on different combined pill or Nuva Ring? THe doctor seemed to think i needed to stay away from all estrogen.

Have you thought of other forms of BC? I have been using Depo-Provera and have had excellent results, though as far as periods go I have not had one in two years, which is perfectly normal. But some girls prefer to have their period as another symbol that they aren't pregnant.

When your on Depo Provera doesn't it screw up your sex drive?

Since first posting I have gone off of the progestrin only pills. I did not have headaches, but i had everything else. I was so bloated I was in pain and my clothes did not fit. I was an emotional wreck and usually I have been told before that I am quite unemotional in general. Some people have even called me stoic so I knew it had to be the pills. I was crying all of the time but maybe that was just because I felt like . I would have dizzy spells that felt like I had been drinking and I had to lay down. I was spotting every couple of days as well and then would not get a "regular" period like I did on the combine pills because all of the progestrin pills are active. I was also anxious all of the time because the protgestrin only pills are only 95 % effective as opposed to 99% and my husband and I do not plan to have any children. I am have now been on Loestrin 24 for four months now and all is well. Still no headaches, but I have lost a few pounds and no bloating, dizzy spells or emotional outbusts. The only problem now seems to be lower sex drive but my husband and I are working on that together which is fun Good luck to anyone tryiing to find a good median when dealing with migraines and birth control pills.
