Mood changes
I was wondering if anyone had experienced mood changes when starting a new birth control and if so, is this something that generally straightens itself out? I have been feeling really tired a lot but that alternates with extremy anxious/nervous feelings. I have had the urge to cry more recently which is odd because I am not a crier usually. I have even had friends in the past tell me I can be stoic so the urge to cry is just plain uncommon for me. I was just wondering if all of this is just in my head because I am aware that I am on a new pill or has anyone else experienced this? -
B/C pills side effects
I think it's normal to have a reaction when you change b/c pills simply because you are fiddling with hormone levels. This can cause changes in mood, appearance, energy levels, your menstrual cycle....lots of stuff. It won't necessarily but it can and the best way to deal with it is probably just to talk to your doctor or research your pill and see what the common side effects are and if there are any to worry about. With any meds its good to give them time to work and you might find that, after a few cycles, your body feels even better after adjusting to the new hormone levels. I guess the most important thing is to be educated and aware of your body's reaction to ensure that you take the best care of yourself possible.Comment

Yes! This definitely has happened with me, currently and in the past.
I was on the combo birth control pill for many, many years. Didn't really have many problems as long as they did not change generics on me...any change would generally trigger weird emotional responses...like the urge to cry. I, too, am not a crier in the least!
Currently, I was changed from the combo pill to the mini-pill (progesterone only). I am on my second cycle and the last couple of days I have been a bit of an emotional wreck - irritable, and choked up with tears for no particular reason.
In my past experiences, I have found that the emotional responses generally subside after a couple of cycles. If you find them to be too disruptive or unbearable, definitely talk to your doctor.

Most forms of birth control contain hormones (along with a few other fun stuff) that may or may not change your mood, your eating habbits, your energy level and your sex drive!
I cannot take the pill or shots because if I do I completely lose my sex drive.. which sucks.
The IUD is (I think) the only birth control method (other than condoms and the natural method) that does not contian any hormones.
You should probably talk to your doctor about getting on a different plan if it is affecting your life so much!Comment

The pill
Yes, definitely the pill can have a dramatic effect on your moods. I have been on many different kinds of B/C pills and I have found some that have little effect (or even a positive effect) while others seem to just tear me apart. B/C is a tricky balance for us women and often it can take a long time before we find something that suits us. However, there are a lot of options out there and don't be afraid to talk to your doctor about trying different pills or methods until you find something that doesn't make you feel miserable. Good luck!Comment
