    Skyla IUD Sudden Period Problems

I’ve had my Skyla IUD for 2 and a half years now, no complications except for hormonal acne that’s managed well. It’s due to expire next May. My husband and I decided to start trying for a baby, so I have my pre-pregnancy appointment scheduled in a month before I get my IUD taken out when my gyno says I’m all good to go. I also just had a Pap smear (all clear), confirmed strings are in place. I haven’t had a period now in nearly 2 years, they stopped due to the IUD. I now just got a full on period, at random with the works, and it’s going on two weeks. I am confused why I have a period now and why it seems to be dragging on. Has anyone else had this happen so late into IUD use? I’ve googled but can’t find this issue anywhere.

I would definitely call your gyno, especially if you're having any pain. I know a lot of women don't have a period when they have an IUD. Breakthrough bleeding can be caused by several things, like cysts or infections. Better to call your gyne, at least for the peace of mind!

Congrats on trying for a baby! That's an exciting journey! I agree with Julia - a call or visit to your gynecologist would for sure help calm down any anxiety relating to your sudden period problems. It's always a good idea to just check in with your health provider so that they're up to date with your situation and can do any necessary tests. I hope your sudden and prolonged period isn't causing too much distress or pain.

I've had Liletta for about 5 years now and my period has been mostly non existent but will randomly show up. When they first put it in I had my period non stop for 40 days and then it basically disappeared but now a few years in I will randomly get a light period or spotting once every few months. I always get period-like symptoms like cramps and breaking out but not always an actual period. I think it's a good idea to check if you're getting a full period for the first time but it also doesn't seem that crazy to me with this hormonal IUDs.
