Bleeding while under stress but not on cycle

    Hi,

    I have a concern. I'm a 22 year old female.
First, my cycle is regular. I'm fortunate enough to not have any severe problems with my cycles. It typically switches weeks every 3 months or so.

I have been noticing for a while that when I am not on my cycle and if I go through a time where I am under a lot of stress or if something happens for me to have an irritated/nervous/upset emotion...I normally spot bleed. The severity of the bleeding depends on the severity of the emotion I'm having. I do have a weak nervous system. For example, the very first time I ever experienced this was when I was grocery shopping and I lost my check book almost 2 years ago. It had everything in it (lisence, giftcards, cash, checks, etc.). I paniced and I was searching for it all over and I was literally bleeding out large clots during and after this happened. My clot bleeding didn't stop until I got my check book back that was found and turned in the following day. After this, it seemed to continue with any stress related feeling I had. (again the bleeding depends on the severity of the emotion) Keep in mind when this happens, I do not have cramps or any type of pain.
Today I had a small argument with my mother and it upset me. So, I bled. My period isn't due for another 10 days.

Is this normal or does it happen to an average of females? Do I need to be concerned about something? And why does something like this happen?

Yes, this is normal. Stress is a huge factor in your cycles. Stress can either cause missed periods or early periods. It can cause spotting and changes in the severity of your bleeding. The more stress you have, the more irregular you will be. It is a known fact.

The best thing you can do is try to learn some techniques to deal with your stress and high emotions. Learn to control your feelings and calm yourself down as quickly as possible. The more you can manage your stress, the more regular your cycle will be.

I realize this discussion happened years ago, but my abnormal bleeding just started this week, and I was so relieved to see that someone else has experienced this and that another person confirmed stress is a factor. I am quite sure that is the cause of mine. I've been having almost a continuous panic attack for the past week, which, to no surprise is how long I have been experiencing the abnormal bleeding. Anyhow, I am just saying thanks. Sometimes it's just nice to know you're not the only one.
