I've had the problem for just over a year now and I experience constant burning and soreness every day, all day long. I couldn't even consider intercourse with the amount of pain I have which was why my partner left me and I don't have one now so sex isn't something I need to worry about. I'm 37 and I see a Vulvar Dermatologist who also specialises in vulval pain problems and she sorts out what medication I need and sends me to my doctor to get it prescribed. I also see a Women's Health Physiotherapist about my pelvic floor because pelvic floor problems can cause this. My PF is very, very tight and I'm working on trying to get it stronger and looser so it stops interfering with blood floow to the vulva and irritating nerves. The first steps are meds for the pain, physiotherapy and avoiding any potential irritants like soap etc. I don't know who you'd need to see as I'm in the UK so can only go on the people we have here, a pain clinic is a good idea though to start with.

          Hi,
I have similar issues- I've had this since last July. But I've been on a low oxalate diet for 4 weeks now. I can't say I've been cured yet, but there's a lot of information on oxalates and vulvodynia. Taking lots of antibiotics can cause a leaky gut which will allow oxalates (compounds in certain foods) to get into the blood stream and accumulate in certain tissues. Check out this website (edit link). The vulvar pain foundation has lots of good info.

I tried the low oxalate diet along with calcium citrate tablets and it didn't make a scrap of difference to my pain but it's something worth considering as a treatment option.

I know this thread is months to years old but someone might still stumble across it, as I have - and my heart goes out to all of you here.

All the stories here are depressingly familiar - being treated both with antibiotics and antifungals for infections and then developing this kind of pain afterwards. Or just being struck down for no reason at all and no helpful medical explaination.

If anyone here is still suffering this problem or stumbles over this thread, consider reading up on Candida (Candida albicans, candidiasis).
Somebody already mentioned leaky gut and the problems that antibiotics (or just poor diet) can cause, and the yeast organism candida is a really important factor in that condition. It often causes this kind of idiopathic vaginal discomfort just because candida can over-grow and disrupt natural balance in the vagina (and other places in the body too.)
Dealing with candida overgrowth has really helped me, and alot of other people, get shot of this god-forsaken problem with vaginal iritation. And lots of other health issues too!
I know its not a magic bullet or a simple answer and we all just want our doctor make it go away. But you are not likely to get much help from your doctor if a problem like candida happens to be at the root of your illness.

I really did suffer terribly with this kind of pain as a child and have had some miserable times with it throughout my adult life as well. I have never found a single medical treatment that has helped or a single doctor who has made a useful suggestion - I'm not saying dont see or dont listen to your doctor, but if you have been suffering this problem for a long time with no results and no help, please please go and investigate candida/candidiasis as a possible cause. You wont get to grips with it or deal with the problem overnight but there is alot of advice and treatment out there to help and there are lots of things anyone can do to tip the balance against opportunistic infections like Candida and similar chronic problems.

I was diagnosed with vulvodynia several years ago and was prescribed a low dose of elavil, also nystatin cream, which worked well for me.

I have a very similar problem. I'm only 17 and about 8 months ago I had a UTI and kidney infection which was treated with antibiotics. After that was gone I was left with a burning pain which occurred randomly pretty much every day, with the degree of burning also varying. Its currently 4am and I've been awake all night because the burning has been so bad today. All the doctors I go to cant find a problem and a few of them are starting to think I'm making this up....have any of you had any luck??? im getting desperate

Pudendal nerve entrapment can cause some of these pain symptoms. ALSO a high oxalate diet, can keep your body from using calcium properly. Too much red meat, oxalates, and other stuff can interfere with the calcium. Try coconut oil too soothe pain...I can't use anything else...and about 1/4 tsp. baking soda in a cup of distilled water also helps neutralize urine...rinse with cool water after urinating...pat dry/don't wipe.
