Hello All

I've come in here hopes of another woman possibly having the same problem as me, since no doctor is able to determine what's wrong. I will need to start from the beginning here - and it goes way back so stick with me!

I am now nearly 21 and I've had this issue since I was 14 or 15 - when I first got my period. My period has always been strange, when I first got it, I had my period daily for 4 or 5 months straight, so I took hormones and it just basically disappeared for 5 more months. That's just a side note - it may or may not have anything to do with my issue. I am regular now, since I am on birth control.

I have constant yeast infection symptoms - heavy, foul smelling discharge, painful burning and urination. I went in for treatment and they told me to just bathe and rinse it with warm water to ease the irritation. Nothing happened. I went on thinking I was basically disgusting until I finally went to the doctor several other times with no help. Another side note: A couple of years ago I had a terrible yeast infection, I had no symptoms and it just hit me, I had to go to the emergency room one night because of it. I called a nurse advice line and she insisted that I had a bacterial infection and needed to go in ASAP. This time, I went to an actual gynecologist and she could not for the life of her find anything wrong with me. She told me my PH levels were normal and suggested inserting vinegar tablets but it would be pointless because there wasn't anything abnormal about it.

I find it hard to believe that I am a perfectly healthy 20 year old female who has clean test results for everything related but there is nothing wrong with me. The thought of living the rest of my life with yeast infection symptoms has haunted me. Has anybody else heard of this - or have it?

Whatever it is, you're not alone. I've been experiencing this for a year and a half and have been tested for EVERYTHING--all vaginal infections and all stds. I've been treated for a million different things but no treatment has ever worked.

I don't test positive for BV (meaning, my ph level is normal), but that's the only thing I can think because there are so many people who suffer chronic BV that it would just make sense. I've been treated for it twice now, to no avail, but I've been reading the boards here and trying all the things that have worked for other women. If you look on the "chronic bacterial vaginosis" thread, there's some stuff you might try to see if it makes your symptoms go away. I haven't had any luck so far, but a lot of those women have, so it's always worth a shot.

Or, maybe there's some sort of infection that hasn't been "discovered" yet that you and I have. Haha. (Kidding, but sort of not kidding). I have no idea what caused my symptoms to appear and nothing I've tried has done even the slightest bit of help.

But definitely check out that chronic bv board, if nothing else is working for you maybe something there will.

I need your help as well.
It's really embarassing......

I've been having this problem for two weeks. It itches and hurts a lot. I can't stop thinking about it, and it gets really painful when I pee or just wash it. All the soaps I've tried are irritating and it keeps me awake at night as itching keeps worsening. I don't know where it comes from, since I never had a similar problem before, but this has become a huge issue. I have to wear pantyliners everyday, 24/7, because I can't help but scratch it and my panties eventually get kinda dirty. It's hugely embarassing.

I've never been to an OB/GYN ever, because I'm too shy and wouldn't tell my mom about it. She'd be incredibly annoying if I ever started getting on the subject. She still thinks I'm a little girl and would wanna come with me, etc... Plus, I really dislike the fact of being naked in front of a stranger, even tho it's her job. Childish, I know... Anyways, I really have no idea where it came from, as nothing special happened in the past two weeks.

However, I've been starting a new treatment for skin problems (nothing serious), so I'm on antibiotics. It may cause this mess, but I wouldn't wanna stop either.

There is your answer.

Some antibiotics cause what we call "thrust" it's a yeast infection that itches, can go red, can swell, and is so uncomfortable, burning, itching all at the same time.

Why is it not that guys can get this, goodness gracious, it's not fair.

Sooo.., Go to a Chemist, and ask for a Thrush (24hr tablet) with cream, it will be gone within 24 - 36hrs, (however) as long as your on antibiotics, it may remain and so, continued treatment. Once your off, no probs.

Homemade remedies?

Natural yoghurt inside and out...

Hot bath with salt and vinegar 1 cup of vinegar and 6 odd tablespoons of salt, warm water, bathe....

This will at least get you through or if your brave, small real small bowl, 1 teaspoon salt, 1 tablespoon vinegar, warm water, and bathe over the loo with cotton wool, it burns, okay, but it stops the itching so at least you can sleep, bath is a better option as above.

Yeah, but the thing is, I'm willing to suffer to have a great skin, 'cause I really need it to be clean and perfect before the summer... I really don't know what to do.

They more or less ask what you use, try to oliminate some things, make them more I guess non chemical, go from there... There's no showing nothing.

And, well Mums are Mums... Try a different approach, try saying ma, I'm still your little girl ( over sharing the photo albumn so she sees 100%) and then show her you now, facebook? photos? you have some...

Thanks for your advice!!! The thing is, (and we may go off topic on that one) I don't get along that well with my mom. She loves me and cares about me very much, but for some reason (yeah, that's hard to say) I don't. I mean, it might happen later that I suddenly realize I like her, but most of the time I can't stand her behavior or thoughts on various matters. This isn't a teenager crisis. I seriously don't have any feelings for her, don't wanna share anything with her. And I tried to bring up the subject once or twice but she always went 'You don't need that, do you???' And I was like 'Please, just be a little understanding, maybe I don't wanna share that with you'. Everytime I bring up a serious matter, she'll want details and will start making up fake stuff about my life. Like I can't talk about male friends without her going 'Ohhh, is he your bf?' UGH. Anyways, I really need to find a way to fix this lol.

I went to a dermatologist, she's the one that prescribed me the antibiotics. But I don't see myself going 'Hey, my lower parts itch...Could it be a consequence of the treatment?'
I had a really serious skin treatment last year, and it worked really well, til it came rushing back this winter (I don't have pimples, just small spots on my forehead and back, but I'm obsessed with these haha). And the antibiotics are showing great results right now, so I'm not really willing to stop taking those.

However, it does hurt a lot and gets quite uncomfortable, since I have to keep myself from doing anything in public, obviously.
I have no idea what to do. I'll try to put yogurt like you suggested, and will tell you if it worked.

Oh, and maybe this is worth saying, I use hair removal cream for my entire body (legs + pubic areas + anywhere else needed). It probably will worsen the problem, and I might be a complete idiot, but I need to do it this week-end (going to the swimming pool), should I completely avoid doing it on the itching areas? Cause I'm a hair-freak and can't stand having hair on unwanted parts of my body.

A simple stool test can be done to determine if someone has Candida yeast overgrowth. If there are food sensitivities, a special blood test such as an ALCAT or RAST panel is done to identify reactive foods. This is important because while food allergies are easily noted, it’s more difficult to pinpoint the cause of food sensitivity since the reaction can take 8–72 hours.

Seems like there should have been more than one thread here.

A few suggestions from someone who suffered from a hard to beat yeast infection that led to 3+ years of pain.

Antibiotics will cause yeast infections. If you don't want to go off of them, ask the doc to test you for yeast first than perhaps a script for diflucan to take while you are on the antibiotics. Do realize that taking antibiotics for prolonged periods of time can really mess with your body.

Panty liners. Don't use them. Especially the Always brand. These are well known to irritate our sensitive parts. Why the makers of these products don't give a d###, who knows.

Don't use soap or any other scented product on your genital area. The perfumes and chemicals in these products can cause you great pain if you have a reaction.

If you allow yourself to suffer with that sort of pain and discomfort, you could lead to long term pain and suffering. Constantly being tense while unconsciously guarding your tender bits can lead to vulvodynia. Not pleasant and very hard to diagnose and treat. Trust me on this one. Also, if there is a planned parent hood by you, go. The women who work at these places are really helpful and sensitive. It's not like going to a reg. gyn. You really can't let this continue.

If you have signs of an infection but your ph is normal and everything looks normal on the slide, the doc should at least do an extended 7 day vaginal culture. They still don't always show an infection when you have one, but it's a good place to start.

If you and your doc are sure that you don't have an infection of any sort, a physical therapist who works with vaginal pain may help to sort things out. Chronic muscle tightness or irritated nerves can exactly immitate many sorts of vaginal infections.
