    Fear of pap tests

Can any 1 please give me some tips on how I can surive another paptest? I'm 25 this year and my frist paptest? Was done when i was 22 ; at the time the gyno demanded to check my organs because i have a huge menstral bleeding. ( I was a virgin at the time . ) I found no usage of getting poked at but I got the test done anyways. The thing was the frist time I got the test done? I bleed like a lot and the doc at the time said ( some! ) LAIR I tell you... That and shortly after that the rapekit test. Let's just put it this way..........I fear anyone touching me below the waist. But the past few days I fear there are some problems due to the high increase of discharge. But if I dont get a paptest I can't find out wth is wrong. Does anyone know of any tricks? or pills I could take? Once i'm on the docters table? im already sweating in fear even before the doctor comes near me.

( sorry , for the run on sentences. Ive been stuck at home translating for the parents too long. My grammer has totally gone off ) Hope somebody can understand me enough to tell me wth i can do to save this situation

Well, my darlin you have no choice but to go and get that pap smear, we all hate them, it's un-comfortable and a feeling of invasion.. Be it male or female that performs it but its short and sweet...

I get the fear, so go to a Doctor first and ask for Valium and have someone drive you to the Gyno appointment, and take you home.. You will feel comfortable and at ease.

No Doctor can ORDER you to do anything only SUGGEST, remember that..

CW's right in that it does need doing - and also right saying you are not giving up control to the doctor who will be examining you.

I've looked over your posts and I see you've had a hard time. It's no surprise at all that you'd feel this way about an internal exam and PAP smear. Tell the doctor that. Explain your anxiety, where it comes from. She will understand and do her best to put you at ease. It would be good if you can have a friend come with you to hold your hand, distract you, help you remember that you are in complete control - if not during the actual examination then before and after. If you need to ask the doctor to stop and give you a minute I'm sure she'll be happy to comply. The last thing she wants to do is make this any worse for you than it is already.

Another thing I would suggest is that you do a search online for 'controlling anxiety' - there are lots of resources out there, go read up on relaxation techniques and tricks to help you focus elsewhere and get through it as calmly as possible.

Best of luck, both for getting through the test and for getting a clear result.

Do you have a good freind who could go with you? Someone to hold your hand literally? Have then speak soothing, calming phrases to you that you have agreed on?
