Last week I went to get my yearly exam for my birth control downtown, and everything seemed fine. I zoomed through, and then it turned out I had to wait an hour and a half for the doctor to show up anyways. When I finally got in to see her, she did the usual stuff, and the pap experience was a LOT more uncomfortable than usual.
After she completed the pap, she stood up, looked at me, and said "oh, well sometimes this happens, you might want to deal with that". She wished me a good day and left the room. Confused, I sat up and realized I was bleeding. A LOT. Now, I know sometimes the brush they use for the pap can cause an eensy bit of bleeding, but only like...when you wipe up. This was crazy bleeding everywhere, and I ended up putting in a tampon.
Now, regardless of how awful this experience was, the doctor's office called me yesterday and said that my results came back and I have chlamydia! I was really shocked. My boyfriend and I have been together for almost a year now, and I was tested right before we began dating. I am POSITIVE he's never cheated on me, but he hadn't been tested from the last partner he had. I've heard that a long lasting chlamydia infection can cause Pelvic Inflammatory Disease, which can lead to infertility. If we've been dating that long, and it turns out he gave it to me from his last partner, then I'm really scared!
So what I'm wondering, is whether or not my iffy pap appointment should be an red flag that perhaps they were incorrect? Or what the possibility is of me becoming infertile from this if I do have it? Either way I'm going to take the antibiotics just in case.
