I discovered I had a yeast infection last week, also around the time I was starting my period. I did the Monistat 1 treatment, but kinda wondered if it would work, considering I was on my period, and how could the medication possibly stay in my system during this time? Either way, the the external symtoms cleared up within a few days. Since the symtoms cleared up, I waited 4 days before I used a tampon for my period, and about 5 days after I had sex with my bf, because I felt I was alright.

Sex was a bit uncomfertable, so I was a bit concerned. They say not to have sex while you have a yeast infection, but I did not know how to tell when I was internally well, when I had been fine externally for a while. Now I am worried I may have done something to make my yeast infection worse... or maybe now it will reoccur because I should've waited longer to have sex. Any expierience with this?

I plan to call my gyno tomorrow, but does anyone know what happens if you do have sex while you still have a yeast infection?

They say you shouldn't have sex because the friction could irritate your skin further, aggrevate the infection, and possibly cause reinfection. It is possible that you did clear up the infection and maybe your discomfort was unrelated. Keep en eye out for the return of itching and redness. If you don't get anymore itching, redness, or increased discharge, then it's probably gone.

The other thing to watch out for if it recurs, is your bf might have to be treated. I had thrush years ago that kept coming back, and the cream the GP prescribed had to be applied to hubby twice a day I think. Once we did that, we didn't have any further problems.
