    PMDD/Ovarian Cycle Syndrome

    Hi to all,

I joined to tell you about Prof John Studd (Gynae in UK) but I see Carpefula just beat me to it lol. Please read his website, he describes PMDD/ovarian cycle syndrome pretty much as I experience it, although 'good' days amount to only 2 or 3 per month.

I'm on my 2nd month of Prostap (Zoladex in US) with add-back HRT. I'm 7 weeks in and the moods are getting better, not great, not consistent yet, but better. I can be prescribed this for 6 months, then a break, for 6 months, then maybe another 6 months on. My only complaint is that it is triggering daily migraines, which I suspect might be caused by drop in blood sugar/pressure. I'm hoping to speak with Gynae tomorrow to see if there's anything he can do about it, if not, I may have to discontinue.

This website helped me get the right help after I read a similar thread last year, there were some very honest and brave posts from women who have suffered like us for too many years. It's a miserable existence, I too have spent nearly 30 years trying various A/depressants and contraceptive pills, all with bad or worse effect.

    Thanks for this website

      I think I have PMDD

      Hey Everyone,

I rarely seek help but I feel like this time I need some advice and support. I have been keeping track of my moods for the past few months and I am finally convinced that I might be suffering from PMDD. I just started looking up information and treatments regarding it and I can see its going to be a long road. I immediately figured that I am going to need some support. I don't know anyone who has personally gone through this nor that seems to know anything about it. Right now I am even going through the symptoms and it is nearly unbearable. I just have this constant suicidal thoughts that last until I finally am on day two, usually, and its hard. I don't want to do anything and I cannot really think. I already tried telling my boyfriend what I think is going on with me and of course he really did not have anything to say about it. I know he does not understand this and neither do I really. I guess my first question is where do I go to from here? How do I start dealing with this? I plan to visit my doctor asap and see if she can help me and how open minded she is and take it from there but until then any advice at all?

I am twenty-three years old and I am a single mom and I do have a lot of stress going on in my life but I only feel like this right before my period and this has been for months and months to no avail. It's just getting worse.

      Thanks for listening.

        Ambriel,

My honest advice to you is go to your doc asap. However, ask to be reffered to a Gyno. In my experiene your GP will just try to palm you off with antidepressants and these will not work!

Go to the Gyno... not just because they will be able to treat you more effectively, but because they will be able to give you a more detailed and understood explanation of what is happening to you. In my experience just knowing can be a huge comfort.

        Good luck, hun.

PS Jodcan - is it John Studd that you are seeing? I'm seeing how I go on Micronor contraceptive pill (it seems to be making a definite improvement but I am still a little up and down) but if it doesn't work I am going to see him.

          Thanks

          Heya,

Thanks for the advice and support. I have to wait, not too long, for my appointment with the doctor. This is not my regular gyno because mine is booked for months at a time, so I hope this woman is understanding or at least open-minded. Today is not as bad as yesterday but I have things seriously trying my patience and I am just trying to control myself.

I do not want to go on anti-depressants/anti-anxiety meds. I did years ago for about a few weeks and that was all I needed to realize that meds were not for me. I eventually was able to combat and beat those issues I had before but now is a new set.

So I will see what she recommends and how things go.

          Thanks!

            PMDD sucks!!

Ok so I know I have been suffering depression for years, and never realized that this happened to me only when I am about to get my period!Although ever since I started my period I got severe pain, bloating etc.. I never connected the two.It has gotten progressively worse, like many of ya'll say, I feel it building inside me as my period date gets closer. And for atleast a week i seem to hate everybody(mind you im a very sweet person otherwise!).I cant even stand myself! Then I have crying spells for no reason!!One time I was on my period and was ordering food and I got sooo angry at the lady I started yelling at her like a crazy person,i couldn't control myself!!I decided that enough was enough,I cannot keep experiencing this EVERY month .Its been 3 weeks since i finally went to the doctor for it.I have never tried anti depressants but i seriously want to know if they will help me.I got on Lexapro on a very low dosage. And its been 3 weeks and it has helped me with anxiety but Im still waiting for it to kick in fully, and I hope so because my periods coming and I dont want to be "crazy" again!

It is the worst sort of abuse a fellow can receive. And while this is going on, the phone can ring and she'll chat with an aquantaince as if everything in the world were normal(Jykle). Then hang up and right back at me(Hyde).

Then suddenly one day she is normal again and acts as if nothing happened. We haven't had sex in many years (I can't be intimate with someone who causes me so much pain and anquish) and I also moved into my own bedroom.

Sleep, eating, work patterns all seem unchanged. I have never seen my wife cry in my life. Just the horrible, awful, unending anger...

I am in , and to be honest, I am alittle upset with some women here who post that we husbands just need to be "a little more understanding". Good luck with that. It's just too awful for "understanding"

Does my story resonate with anyone? Does this sound like PMDD.

              Help me, please.

RPP . . . I'm embarrassed to say that I too am Jeckyl and Hyde. Up until a month ago I honestly didn't know what was wrong with me, but I heard the term PMDD somewhere and started researching.

When "it" hits me I have this uncontrollable urge to hit, scream, yell, say awful things to my husband with no regard for his feelings & honestly could care less if he walked right out the door (and yes, when the phone rings I can switch it off where the other person would never know anything is wrong) and then a week passes and I'm the happiest person ever.

When I'm in my right mind again and am affectionate towards my husband, he'll say "oh so you like me again".

I've been married for 13 years and by the grace of God my husband hasn't left me. Now that I know what's wrong with me, I'm desperately trying to find a doctor who understand this.

Not sure if this will help or hurt matters but research as much as you can . . . print out posters comments so she can see that other people experience the same things, research articles, etc.

Now for the presentation . . . Tell her you have to visit your sick grandmother, leave town on Friday before she gets home from work, place all your research in a folder and leave it on the kitchen table. Write a note and tell her how you feel and that you love her but she's gotta get a grip. Will this make her mad? You better believe it, but after the anger wears off she'll read thru it and research it for herself. Deep down she KNOWS something's wrong. Stay gone until late Saturday afternoon or maybe Sunday. Don't take her phone calls. She needs time to think through this.

Not sure if this is the advice a licensed practioner would give, but it's real world advice. Best of luck.
