really need advice
This is going to sound odd, but recently after I have removed my tampon or finished usuing the bathroom there is this skin type thing that appears. This has never happened to me before, it seems like actual skin, yet nothing seems to hurt. Any advice on what this could be? Is this really seriouse or something that will pass?
Thank you -

reply to slvaqua re; skin
hi, i'm an ob/gyn nurse and i'm not sure if you are talking about skin-like discharge that comes out and you flush it or if it is in or on your vagina and appears when you wipe or remove your tampon. let me tell you what is most likely in the latter case. if it is attached to you it could just be a simple skin tag, the doctor can remove it if it bothers you, but-and don't freak out- what it truly sounds like is a genital wart. you may have more inside of your vagina and on your cervix. the doctor can remove these also. it is caused from an s.t.d. called human papilloma virus or hpv which is the number one cause of cervical cancer so keep up your pap smears. they now have a vaccine to prevent hpv but it is only recommended for girls that are not yet sexually active. you may have to, in addition to having them removed, part of the cervix frozen or removed. the freezing is simple, virtually painless and done in the office. there are many strains of this virus and most don't cause warts, in fact most women don't even know they are positive until it comes back on their yearly pap smear. it can be dormant as alot of s.t.d.'s for a period of time so don't jump to conclusions about your current partner----YET (lol). if it is something coming out on your tampon, it is most likely the sluffing off of the tissue in your uterus that builds up each month in preparation for pregnancy, then comes out with menstruation. hope this helps and if it's attatched to you see an ob/gyn now!Comment

hey girl, sorry to take so long to get back but i wanted to confer with my hushand, since he sees this type of thing everyday. now this is of course without us having actually seen and diagnosed the problem, but he completely agrees that it is most likely tissue and dead cells sluffing off. as to why you have never noticed it before- i can't answer that. if this greatly concerns you then see your dr. or go to a clinic. good luck, but don't be to alarmed i think you're fine and i myself have seen this tissue come out but i knew what it was so i never really thought about it. bye, obnurseComment
