help with partner's erratic, debilitating periods

ok, my partner has serious period issues...she will go for months without having one, and then she will have a constant period for an undeterminable amount of time. they have put her on birth control before, and that regulates it to the point that it comes only once a month for a week. the problem is that when it does come on, it's so heavy that she can't get out of the bed except to go to the bathroom, and she'll have incredibly debilitating cramps. Since the bc seems to help some, we assume that it's a hormone imbalance, but is there anything anyone knows of that we can do? it makes her so miserable, and i don't know what to do. i think we would both like to find a homeopathic remedy if possible. help!

The BC pill produces an anovulatory cycle - so she's not ovulating when she's on the pill which is why the pill regulates when she gets her period...
If she's not worried about future fertility issues, she could go on Depo-Provera.
Otherwise, you could try acupuncture - they can stabilize hormines and regulate the body and her cycle - and definately help with cramps. The acupuncture might take a couple months before it's really effective though.
    Hope this helps.

      Endometriosis

Perhaps she has endometriosis which can cause considerable pain during menstruation.
Or, it could be that she has benign cysts that are activated during her peiod.
Prescription drugs and treatment can be a huge improvement on quality of life.
See a gynecologist and don't allow anyone to tell you that it is just part of being a woman and to suck it up.
      There is treatment.
