What is this?

I've been on birth control (tri cyclen) for about 10 months now, and i'm experiencing something strange. I do believe i'm spotting but its not red, its a dark brown colour. Sometimes its barely there and then sometimes its heavier, heavy enough to use a pad. I don't really know what this could be - I know I'm not pregnant. I'm not stressed. I dont know what this could be! Anything, anyone?

It's mostly likely old blood. I get that too from time to time, usually right after my period. I had that when I was on Yaz too. I think its just a little break through bleeding that is old blood.

Does it have a specific smell?
