Severe Discomfort/Burning Near Vaginal Opening (Graphic)

Hello, my name is Jennifer and I am 19 years old. I've been dealing with a reoccurring problem for roughly the past three months but until now I've been reluctant to look for help because of how personal it is.

My problem began for the first time a few days after a rare try at masturbating using feminine products. What I have been living with is a burning/stinging sensation near the vaginal opening that lasts anywhere from one to roughly eight hours at a time. Through my own observations I've noticed that this is being caused by the inflammation of a specific place -- the soft, pink palette of skin -- near the vaginal opening. During each "attack", this place has become visibly swollen, red, and sensitive to the touch. It becomes much easier to manage when I'm able to lay down without any clothing being able to contact the area but even then the burning is still very present. One Bartholin's gland also appears to be red and somewhat swollen during the "attacks". Another symptom is feeling like I constantly have to pee, even when I know that I don't. When the area is inflamed, the only reprieve is to sit on the toilet and try to urinate. I may have a drizzle here and there but nothing that should cause such a powerful urge to urinate. Peeing is also extremely painful both during and after -- immediately after the urine stream is over, however, is when the pain is the worst. So much so that I've been reduced to tears on more than one occasion. I will occasionally notice blood in my urine. When the pain dies down so does the inflammation so this is not a constant problem. On the contrary, the "attacks" seem to be brought on spontaneously and I never know for sure when they are going to occur. However, they seem to happen more frequently when I'm active in the day-time (walking and moving around). I am not sexually active nor have I ever been; I am a virgin. I took a test for a UTI which came back negative.

This is beginning to affect not only my personal life but my work life as well. I support myself with my income and, realistically, I can't afford to take off work to sit in the bathroom. Has anyone else had a similar experience? Any idea what it could be? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!

You should probably go and be seen by a Dr. Even though your UTI test came back negative, it still sounds like one.

I think a proper medical exam is in order.

I've had several UTI's and your symptoms sound like a UTI to me. I'm diabetic and much more prone to get UTI's than non-diabetics. I got my first one when I was 15 and still a virgin.

You need to go to the doctor for evaluation. When treated my UTI symptoms cleared up in a few days. If left untreated, a UTI can lead to a kidney infection which is very serious and life threatening.

Your symptoms could also be from a vaginal infection or yeast infection. You should be tested for bacterial infections as well as yeast infections. You can get these infections even if you aren't sexually active.

I'm 18, almost 19 & I've been suffering since I was about 15-16. Here's my advice; see a doctor, have urinary tests done, make sure they check for foreign things, sometimes it'll just come up as e.coli though. They may put you on anti biotics also which isn't such a bad thing. See a gynocologyst, let them see if things are fine, do another urine test for things like chlamydia, if you've had sexual partners. Book to see a specialist, a urologist, again if you have a sexual history tell the urologist, if you've had operations, things like that, tell them, they'll also check to see if things are fine down there externally obviously. Ask about a cystoscopy. There may be a problem with the bladder/kidneys.
A physio is next, it may be a pelvic floor disfunction. They'll also check what's going on.

Something may be inflamed or it may be muscular pain, etc.
Also, have Epsom salt baths or just warm baths.
Use a heat pack on your abdominal/pelvic muscles or lower back.
Panadeine works great and neurofen plus too.
          Avoid scented things down there.
When in pain lie on your side.
Squeeze your vagina muscles tight and then release, this helps to try to relieve the pain & relax the muscles.
          Drink lots of water!
Drink cranberry juice, take cranberry tables & hiprex tablets.
If you have the urge to pee, I know it's hard to hold back but lie on your side with a heat pack if you can & drink lots of water & try to relax your muscles. The more water you drink the more urine you'll actually pass when you go to pee.

Right now this is all I can think off.
          I hope this helps!!

Also if you happen to get to a stage where you feel like you've been taking a lot of anti biotics you should take inner health plus tablets.

Oh and it can also be caused by stress so if you stress or if you're angry it can inflame the muscles.

I kind of went off track and mentioned some general points for anyone reading this.
          Hope it helps someone!

Have to agree, this totally sounds like a UTI. No matter what, you need to see a doctor and not be embarrassed about it. The most important is that if you wait too long, you might have long term repercussions and I'm sure you wouldn't want that. Go do it!
