    Small Vaginal Tear

I have a two small vertical vaginal tears that look like paper cuts right below my vagina and above my perineum. The don't really hurt at all, except maybe when i'm wiping after i urinate. I have no other STD symptoms (like discharge, itchiness, fever) so I'm fairly certain they are cause from sex with my boyfriend (who is rather large) but i'm not sure. I have a couple questions:
    1. What most likely caused this?
    2. How best should i help it heal?
    3. How long will it take to heal?
    4. How long should I refrain from sex?

Thank you so much for your help

Could be sex, could be from manual stimulation (were his nails trimmed?). Keep it clean. Healing will be a matter of time. You could wipe with witch hazel, it would probably help in soothing. Abstain from sex as long as it is uncomfortable, a week, two weeks.

Was this particular encounter rougher than normal?

It was necessarily rough but it was our first time having sex w/o a condom and we were having problems at first getting him in.

Sounds like you weren't wet enough.
Tell him you need a few days to heal but would like for him to get you super aroused anyway, so that you are really wet. With no expectation of intercourse that should allow him to slow down and really focus on you and you will both better understand what you need to be really ready.

Are we assuming that its just rough sex and that i don't need to get tested?

If you have ANY doubts that you could have an STD, do get checked.
But I've had this happen before and it did heal right up. I'm clean.
