VERY VERY concerned about my menstrual cycle

Hello Everyone! I have a serious concern regarding my period this month, and I hope and I can get some answers or advice!

On July 9th (which was my birthday and just turned 19) I began to have what I consider excruciating cramp. It was so horrible that a hot tub didn't not work at all and I ended up vomiting not once but twice. I felt so faint and I was bleeding excessively. I am not sexually active (I'm still a virgin, so I'm ruling out the possibility of being pregnant) I also wanted to state that for a while back (about five months, I did not have my period. My dummy moment really didn't see it as a problem, I just 'enjoyed' not having to deal with it. I don't know if this may be the reason why I didn't have it but I was not in school, and I was working with my aunt who doesn't have her period anymore and my mom doesn't either. and I was around them alot and I heard that period can get affected when you're around women who may currently have their periods or not (I really don't know how to explain but anyways) Let's fast fowards to now lol

Since Saturday (july 9th) My period has been heavy, and I noticed that I was bleeding out blood clots as well, biggest I've seen was like the size of a penny. My mom told me that's normal because she had that when she was younger, but I'm a bit paranoid and worried. My cramps are pretty bad now, but I keep bleeding alot. My period usually last about five to six days. And It usually lightens up by the third day. (I'm on my 4th day) I'm really concerned about this. Can anyone give me some advice???? I would greatly appreciate it!!!!!

    Have a nice day!

Calm down there... Periods are not predictable. This may just be a heavy "catch up" time from not having your period for a few months. The lining has built up in your uterus and needs to shed, hence the clotting and heavy bleeding.

Take some Tylenol or ibuprofen, cuddle up with a heating pad and relax. You are on day 4, so definitely no need for panic. Your cycle will change numerous numerous times in your life.

    Welcome to the forum!

Hi there, first off don't worry yet - you should consider seeing a doctor if your period is very heavy for more than 7 days.

I'd say, considering you didn't have a period for months, having a really big one like now is not unexpected.

Have you always had irregular periods? If so, you may consider temporarily going on birth control to help regulate your cycle.

Having said all of this, if you're still worried about anything at all, a quick trip to the gyno wouldn't hurt.

Though my initial reaction is to tell you to see a doctor, I'm not sure they could do anything for you. They *might* diagnose the issue, but more likely they would give you some hormonal birth control and tell you to ride it out.
In the event that you want more regular periods, and possibly less pain (along with the possibility of unwanted side effects,) you should consider getting on the pill.
At any rate, if your period gets "backed up," it seems normal that it would be heavier and need more contractions to expel everything. Rest easy
