    Severe Pain

Alright, I've been very fortunate in my years to have VERY normal/regular periods. They only last about 3 days, regular flow, and no cramping. I've had a little back pain here and there but nothing major. I was on the depo shot for almost two years. After a couple months of being on it my periods stopped. I stopped getting the shot in March because I'm getting married next year. I know the shot, after being on it for a good while, can lead to infertility. A month after i got off of it, my periods came back. I've had my normal periods like I've always had in the past. Until my last one last week.
The second day after I got it, I woke up with severe cramping and back pain. The flow was a lot heavier than normal as well. I ended up taking a hot bath to try and relieve this pain. It helped a bit but not much. I then took about 800mg of ibprofen. After almost two hours of taking the ibprofen I still didn't have any relief. I was in so much pain I was in tears. So, I went to the doctor. I explained everything that was going on and they feared I may be having an ectopic pregnancy. I got blood work done and the pregnancy test came out negative. So, it wasn't that. They ended up giving me two shots in my butt and a prescription for the pain. About 5 minutes later I felt better.
But anyways after this long speel.... My question is... Has anything like this happened to you? Turns out mine was just a REALLY bad period, but i'm afraid it's going to happen next month and that the depo messed up my system or something..

I know the shot, after being on it for a good while, can lead to infertility.
Not sure where you got that information from, but things like that come from over-exaggerations on the internet from people who are trying to scare people from taking any form of birth control. If it did lead to infertility it simply would not be prescribed, too many doctors would be sued even if the warning was posted on the drug. Doctors would not want to deal with getting sued so easily if Depo actually did cause infertility in a great majority of women. Same applies to other types of birth control, if it did cause infertility it would not be prescribed simply due to doctors not wanting to get sued even if the information was there for patients to read. There are people who have risk factors in their lives who can become infertile for reasons other than taking birth control, but it is not take the shot for a few years and now you are infertile. Does not work that way.

As for the pain grab some Midol rather than Extra strength Advil (Ibuprofen is Advil). Midol was made to alleviate more period symptoms rather than the general pain relief from Advil.

I know the shot, after being on it for a good while, can lead to infertility.
Most often reported, temporary fertility issues, not full infertility. Some women can get preg right off the shot, others it can take years and it seems to be well known by fertility specialists that this IS a common side effect of long term depo use.

Sorry to hear your'e having such a rough time. It takes longer for Depo to fully get out of your system. Exercise, drink lots of water, limit your caffeine, and try to minimize the symptoms for your next period. You could've possibly had a cyst that ruptured. When you're on bc, you don't ovulate so no real shot of those naggy little cysts developing. Once you start ovulating, you may start having a cyst now and then. The WORST pain I've ever felt in life was what I believe to be a cyst that ruptured. No fun.
