Borderline changes - Result of Pap/Smear test

I have just noticed that someone else has posted a simalar post - I hope its ok to post my own.

I had my pap/smear test result back today and it said I had Borderline Changes. I did a bit of research about it, and apparently its quite common, but i think i need reassurance from people who have possibly had the same experience?

Im quite the hypocondriac - so anything like this totally freaks me out and i think its the worse case scenerio. Ive started to freak myself out as I read that HIV can cause abnormal results. When I say i freak out about health...i really mean it! ha!

Has anyone else has a 'borderline change' result?

Thank you for your help and support in advance.

I thought I would add, even though its probably not the best image in your head that you would want!, that when I went for my pap/smear test, the nurse said that I had a lot of discharge - she was almost shocked about it. She said it was normal - but im still unsure. Could I have some sort of infection? I have discharge, but theres no smells - although the colour can range from white to almost a yellowy dark white kind of colour - not sure how to explain it. theres no itching or burning either. Sometimes it can be stringy and other times it almost has the look of seamen - if that makes any sense. (and im so sorry for the 'too much detail'! not a pleasent thought for any of you).

I had a 'slightly abnormal' pap smear once a few years ago, and when the doctor re-did the test she said it came back normally. There are many reasons why this can happen, but my doctor said that I may have simply been exposed to HPV around the time of the first test (I have not had any abnormal paps since, so I've been told that I'm in the clear). Is there any way you can get another pap done, in order to calm your mind?

As for the discharge, perhaps it has to do with where you are in this month's cycle, Many women say that the amount fluctuates throughout the month and becomes more and less 'stringy' as well. If your doctor says it's normal, I wouldn't be too worried right now. I would guess that he/she would spot an infection (for example, doctors can sometimes detect BV just by sight/smell) and you have no other symptoms, which is good.

It's very easy to jump to conclusions - trust me, I do it all the time. If I were you, I would ask if I could have another pap in the near-ish future and maybe some routine STD tests in order to ease the scary thoughts

Thank you for your reply :-) Yeah the letter that i was sent said that i need to come back in 6 months time. I suppose if it was anything to worry about they would want me to come back pretty much straight away.
