Pain When Inserting Tampons (firs time user)

I got my period for the first time this month (I'm 14), and since I am really active and play a lot of sports (including swimming) I wanted to try tampons since I'll have to use them soon.

Well, I went through 6 tampons and a lot of pain before I tried lying down on my bed with a mirror... I can see the hole but it looks like a layer of skin covering it (from the inside...). It hurts to try to go past this. Could this be my hymen, and if it does not stretch on it's own and I have to go to the doctor, what will she have to do?

This whole thing is just making me very nervous - thank you for any advice.

When i first tried tampons i went through a few of them with only getting them half way in. Make sure its the plastic kind with a plastic tip, the cardboard ones are more difficult and have a cotton tip, which for me was impossible to start with. I suggest relaxing breathe calmly, and try, i found that putting a foot on the toilet or bath tub helped. If that doesn't work then try some pads for awhile.
I never heard of the hymen being that low?
    Good luck!

i mostly use maxi pads. i might use a tampon towards the end of the cycle when the bleeding gets lighter. i agree with darling about getting the plastic kind. i get kotex tampons and with maxi pads i get always. i have had my period for 13 years now and its still a little painful and uncomfortable inserting them
