Unprotected sex, understanding the ovulation cycle. help.

Hello, okay, for starters I am 21. Last night I did the unforgivable and had unprotected sex. This morning I woke up to pee and noticed blood. I thought I might be just getting my period but it's kinda watery blood? I'm not sure. I'm not normally a heavy bleeder but it is steady. I have some cramps too this morning. Anyway, Last night I had a migraine also. The last time I can remember having a period was on the 18th of october. I think I might have had it two days after that. But I am unsure. I'm not sure how the ovulation cycle works or what exactly is going on with my body at the moment but I'm sort of freaking out.

    Hi Elizabeth,

The only way to know when you ovulate is to track your temperature with a basal thermometer and to track your fertility signs. If you haven't been tracking, there's no way to go back and know for sure when you would have ovulated. It happens on different days of the cycle for different women, and it sometimes changes from cycle to cycle for each woman, too.

The best thing to do is to take a pregnancy test. Good luck!

Once a guy ejaculates inside you, it can take up to two weeks before the sperm fertilizes the egg and the egg implants into the uterine wall. Until that happens, your body does not even begin producing the pregnancy hormone. You are most likely experiencing some bleeding from the sex. Unless you have had unprotected sex more than on just this occasion, you are not experiencing pregnancy symptoms. That doesn't mean you won't get pregnant, it just means it's too soon to be having any symptoms of it.

To my knowledge, Plan B is available to take within 72 hours of unprotected sex. There are typically some side effects associated with taking Plan B, but they are better than unwanted pregnancy.

And yes... get yourself on some form of birth control whether that be the pill, the diaphragm, or just condoms. What you did isn't unforgivable. Just make smarter decisions for yourself in the future.
