    Unusually thick hymen?

About a year ago, sex started to hurt, not every time I did it, but every once in a while. After about a month, it hurt every time I had sex and even during foreplay. It got to the stage that I just couldn't have sex at all, I noticed a lump inside my vagina, at first I thought it was swelling due to over penetration as my boyfriend & I were trying to have sex too much, but then it felt like it was getting bigger, and now at the moment it's completely blocking my vagina, I can't use tampons or have sex at all.
I went to my doctor a couple of months ago, who initially thought I had a rectocele (when the rectal passage gets blocked up and bulges into the vagina) as I have issues with constipation too, I was on laxatives for about a month when I went back for a check up and the doctor found that my rectal passage was completely clear & this wasn't the cause. He sent me to a gynaecologist which I had to wait about four months to see, I was worrying this whole time thinking I had cancer and imagining every worst possible scenario so I was anxious to get an answer. When I went, the woman examined my vagina & said "you shouldn't have been sent to me, this is a problem with your hymen". Apparently, my hymen is too thick and never broke, then she told me I'll be fine because it will tear during childbirth. I'm 21 at the moment and I do not plan on having children any time soon, if ever at all. I told the gynaecologist this and her reply was "ah, you will". I think this was pretty unprofessional as surely there must be something she can do for me.
It's become a serious problem, every day I'm in pain, it feels like I have my period 24/7 as the pains are so severe, and when I do have my period it's so heavy it stains my clothes and bedsheets and I cannot pass clots as my vagina is blocked so this is extremely painful, I can also barely move for the first two days of my period & have to take painkillers every 4 hours. I also have terrible discharge, which comes out yellow/orange and sometimes brown, I go through so many pairs of underwear as they get soiled within an hour of putting on fresh ones. My vagina is constantly itchy (I don't have thrush though) and because of this it hurts to pee aswell. I can't keep living with this until I have a child, as I said I don't plan on having children.
It was manageable when I was with my boyfriend because he knew what was going on, but we've broken up and I'm reluctant to meet someone new because of the embarrassment of this problem. Anyone have a problem like this or have any idea what I should do? Is this just an unusually thick hymen or could it be something else?

EDIT: If my hymen was always unusually thick then why didn't I notice it until I was 20 & how come it felt like it was growing?

Go get another professional medical opinion, share everything, and make it clear to them that this is not an acceptable condition for you and that you need to treat it so that the problem goes away. For a referral to another doctor, ask around - friends and/or fam should be able to point you to someone capable. Good luck, you can overcome it all.

KitKat, this sounds a lot like something another poster has, I'll find the post and BRB.

Found it, it's imperforate hymen. I googled it because I'd never heard of it, but please go look it up, there's pics and descriptions, and the girl that was posting was having surgery to correct it. I don't know where you are that it took 4 months to see a GYN, but honestly if need be, go to an emergency room so you can have a decent doctor take a look AND report that GYN, anyone so dismissive of such a serious problem should be reported.

Good luck, hope it gets solved soon.

Trix is right about this being correctable by surgery. The procedure is called a hymenotomy. What is the situation for your medical care where it takes 4 months for a gynecologist appointment?
