I went to my doctor a couple of months ago, who initially thought I had a rectocele (when the rectal passage gets blocked up and bulges into the vagina) as I have issues with constipation too, I was on laxatives for about a month when I went back for a check up and the doctor found that my rectal passage was completely clear & this wasn't the cause. He sent me to a gynaecologist which I had to wait about four months to see, I was worrying this whole time thinking I had cancer and imagining every worst possible scenario so I was anxious to get an answer. When I went, the woman examined my vagina & said "you shouldn't have been sent to me, this is a problem with your hymen". Apparently, my hymen is too thick and never broke, then she told me I'll be fine because it will tear during childbirth. I'm 21 at the moment and I do not plan on having children any time soon, if ever at all. I told the gynaecologist this and her reply was "ah, you will". I think this was pretty unprofessional as surely there must be something she can do for me.
It's become a serious problem, every day I'm in pain, it feels like I have my period 24/7 as the pains are so severe, and when I do have my period it's so heavy it stains my clothes and bedsheets and I cannot pass clots as my vagina is blocked so this is extremely painful, I can also barely move for the first two days of my period & have to take painkillers every 4 hours. I also have terrible discharge, which comes out yellow/orange and sometimes brown, I go through so many pairs of underwear as they get soiled within an hour of putting on fresh ones. My vagina is constantly itchy (I don't have thrush though) and because of this it hurts to pee aswell. I can't keep living with this until I have a child, as I said I don't plan on having children.
It was manageable when I was with my boyfriend because he knew what was going on, but we've broken up and I'm reluctant to meet someone new because of the embarrassment of this problem. Anyone have a problem like this or have any idea what I should do? Is this just an unusually thick hymen or could it be something else?
EDIT: If my hymen was always unusually thick then why didn't I notice it until I was 20 & how come it felt like it was growing?
